Weekly poll: will you buy a 5G phone this year?

28 April 2019
5G networks are launching all over the world and there's a quickly growing number of 5G-capable flagships. But is it too early?

Sort by:

Most of people will buy a 4G phone or will not buy any phone. I am going to buy OnePlus 7 PRO 5G version. This year and maybe next there is no real reason to buy 5G phone but... I want to change my phone in about 3 years so this is a reason why I am hitting for OP 7 PRO 5G. I think that in 2020 5G will be present in most of big cities and it will be a must have feature.

Anonymous, 28 Apr 2019it took until 2015 to get half-decent 4g coverage here, so ... moreLol you.are lucky. We didn't even have 4G in 2015 and we are.in the EU. And with current plans, we get, like, 1GB for 10EU. Pure evil...

If the next Note goes 5G them I'm there.

Thhe only bad thing about 4G is carriers' greedy offers with minimum traffic. From what i see, this will change with 5g and we'll finally forget about WiFi as we should.
But, it'll take much time before 5G offers useful coverage, especially it Europe. I'm just bying a new 4G phone and i voted "i'm fine with 4g", because really, there is just no alternative and won't be in the next 1-3 years. Just in time for my next phone, maybe.

I will not buy a 5G-capable phone yet because it's still on beta testing stage.
There's still a lot of stuff to improve before this 5G thing becomes fully relevant.

Maybe. But it won't be for 5g. It'll be for the rest of the phone. It may just happen to have 5g as well.

If you living in S.Korea the 5G network is expected to go on full swing. The mobile carrier KT will establish 5G network in 85 cities by the end of this year with 80% coverage. I expect country like US, Hong Kong, Japan and India with 4G penetration already over 90% will proceed with this 5G as well.

Why yes of course I will! The full 5G standard is ready, the network coverage has reached 90% of the country's population and the phones are affordable.

                          (Sarcasm if it wasn't obvious)

They only announced of it coming soon. The one really hyping 5G is phone manufacturer themselves. They keep saying they have been working with mobile carrier for 5G network and their first 5G phone will be made available to these carrier.

wac, 28 Apr 2019It won't be a gimmick in a few years. But now - it is.That is some salty analysis right there. What you mean is, the things that are better, but you won't have access to, is a gimmick? Maybe dust off that old dictionary?

Not only is 5G super limited but all of the 5G phones currently and coming out still don't have specs that spark my interest. 5G won't be fully implemented until 2021 or 2022 so I can certainly suffice with 4G LTE considering I can download big files over wi-fi anyway.

Zendroid, 28 Apr 2019Nope, because we won't be able to use 5g before 2020 or 202... moreAgreed. As it stands, 5G is in infancy. The only reason to buy a 5G phone is the same as for buying a foldable; you want to be a beta tester

I'm "stuck" halfway through on a two year contract, otherwise I would have.

Nope, because we won't be able to use 5g before 2020 or 2021. So just wait until it's "fully" evolved. But I'm excited to see if there will be any new phone for me from now on.

Fck 5G. It's a useless junk gimmick that's not only harmful to health but also moronically costly. It will be 4 to 5 years before it even gets affordable. Even then the health hazard is already the major problem from that 5G radio towers and supplemental WiFi hotspots to cover for range, that are going to mushroom up and around the world.
