It is very unfortunate. Seems like Uncle Sam dont like China's economy growth rapidly recently. Really wonder what comes after.

Current user will get Android update using AOSP? What about tommorow's Honor 20 launch? I think it still will using Android as they must got Google certificate way before the annoucement.

But no matter what, this will hurt both Google & Huawei sales, by a lot, especially Huawei. Even if i'm a fan of Huawei phones, I will not buy Huawei/Honor phones at the moment. Lets see both Google & Huawei official statement tommorow, with Trump's meeting with China by end of this month.

Sucks for everyone who bought P20 and P30 and they won't get a single major update to their Android... On phones costing 1000 bucks...

This could be a power-play from the USA side, and it could be a legitimate infraction to Intellectual Property and Public Security concerns.

We do know that USA leads the world by a long stretch when it comes to many fields of innovation. The next followers come from UK, Germany, Japan, Korea, Israel, and to a lesser extent other North/West European nations.

Just because China, like that of Russia and India, are powerhouses of manufacturing does not mean they are leaders in innovation. It's very easy to build a Tesla Model 3, it is very difficult to design the Tesla Model 3. That's the key difference. As our planet moves further and further away from manual labour and human input, towards more and more mechanical, electronic, and AI-based economies.... the nations that lead in innovation (design) are going to dominate/win out nations that rely on manufacturing (building).

Europe have to sue Google for unfair practice. If you are global company you have to provide full access to any company instead if blocking due to government of some other country. Block anything just in USA, not around the world. Nor stop business abroad USA.

[deleted post]In that case, that includes all crap from USA too. As they spy even alleged allies... that today aren't because nobody wants them now as an ally with that amazing president and all their shit discovered.

This is a big flag for other countries around the world about the Trump plans. A good point to look for alternative products and cut trade with the USA.

In the morning I've basically started working on a paper that's due today (even though I had over 2 months to do it) and I'm only like 1/3 done. Today will be the day that the Chinese tech companies n govt will embark on a mission to release and Android alternative for Mobile phones.
2022 should see a 3rd viable mobile os

It would be really funny if Huawei now allowed users to unlock the bootloader on their phones so that devs on XDA can create custom ROMs for them..

Trump and huawei president should head back to the negotiation table to solve this issue. Nobody deserves to be ended like this. I don't like huawei but this kind of power that government have that is capable to destroy a company with controlling technology sector is a treat to freedom. Huawei needs to prove that it's not a treat to national security and the US government have to be transparent about it.

This shit better end soon, the US government is accusing Huawei of spying without solid proof, why did such a stupid guy become president? Huawei can make their own OS if they want to, I'd probably upgrade to that. It's bad times for Huawei, but they will sure make it to the end, and they won't be forgotten like Blackberry or HTC :)

China will have to ban Apple if they have common sense of nationalism

What is up in the air, is if this will affect Huawei P30 Pro, Mate 20 X, Mate 20 Pro, and the Honor View20 and Magic 2. These are still devices that have already launched globally and require Google Play Services, however, they are still in manufacturing.

We don't know if the current ban affects future handsets being made, one's that have been already shipped. We also don't know if the devices that have been shipped, if they will get Google Play updates for the Apps and Services. I want to say "No" for both accounts, but that seems rash at this point since this blacklist seems very serious. I mean, much more serious than the ZTE debacle.

I mean, it was only a few days ago when Huawei's Official Twitter account was gloating that this will not happen, as it would be detrimental to the USA (#HuaweiFacts). So its a case of wait and see for the near future.

For regular people; this means do NOT buy any Huawei phones.
For enthusiasts; this might mean very good deals online, and lots of Custom Rom activity.
However, whomever you are, proceed with caution.
