This is 'anti-competitive' behaviour. For consumers we lose out on the best technology. I was looking forward to the Mate 30 Pro, it would have been my next phone (it may still be).
My first reaction was, 'I should buy an iPhone'. But then I thought stuff it, that would mean Trump, Apple and the US win. At what cost? The cost of technological advancement. Apple has dropped the ball and has fallen behind (whilst still charging so much more than the rest). It was just a matter of time before more people realised (even apple fanbois) and started leaving Apple. This is not good for US. What to do? Hmm, yes, let's ban companies from dealing with Huawei 'wtf'. This is the playground behaviour of a bully.
I for one will be looking at alternative solutions now in my life. It will be hard as Google is ingrained in my life. I'll be getting an alternative email address, looking for a different search engine, using a different calendar etc. Yes, Google dominates now but this will open the door for viable alternatives and maybe Huawei will bring some viable alternatives to the table. This could bring on the next tech revolution and a viable alternative to google will hopefully arrive.
Back to XDA forums, custom roms and side-loading apps.

AnotherGoodDay, 23 May 2019So the Chinese are asking for backdoors, Google, Facebook a... moreOne's spying on foreign countries, one's spying locally.
The ironic thing is that US [government] has supposed proof of China spying them by spying China themselves in the first place.

Mudcat62, 23 May 2019This is the US trying to force Huawei to transfer their 5G ... moreIf the ties between Huawei and chinese government are true then that is impossible. The'll receive help to operate locally and use already licensed products for few years globally while develop new ones that don't need USA patents. It could take a decade but they'll come back.
And not sure what equipment USA will choose. EEC don't trust USA any more after the spygate, why use european key equipment from countries that don't trust you? Now Europe even has some better trades with Asia and China than USA. Trump is not welcome here now while previous USA presidents were, he is a specialist burning bridges. Perhaps they should go with the junk from Cisco and Broadcomm, so all the trusted scrap will be used at home and call it "5Ge" the trusted half turtle for the new generation.

This is the US trying to force Huawei to transfer their 5G tech to US companies. Without it, the US won’t be able to spy on everybody because they will be locked out of 5G. Watch and see, Huawei will trade 5G IP so they will still have access to continue in the phone market.
