updating device every 6 months sounds good, but quickly leaves older models out of date (software updates are a thing that Sony isn't good at).

On top, the upgrades are very minor (already yearly upgrades on most flagships are minor as it is..imagine 6 months), terrible designs (they looked all same/bricky and massive bezels)

On top of that, this 6 month schedule seems to have impacted their quality as well

Anonymous, 01 Jun 2019Brag my arse, also your innovations are useless such as 4K ... moreI bet 960fps slow mo is useless too, right? But oh, wait! Samsung now implemented this too in their phones, so I guess it ain't that useless anymore.

If you only work on your marketing, Sony, you'll be a Top 5 player in no time. Pulling out of the developing markets was a clever move - those places don't value good brands anyway, they only obsess over CPUs and RAM lmao

Thank you Sony, for bringing an unnecessarily high resolution screen to phones, so they can run out of battery faster and get hotter in the meantime. Also, thank you for copying and popularizing the fragile glass sandwich phone design. You made us lose a lot of money. Thank you.

Ben, 01 Jun 2019So how come worlds first is in red for years now? Maybe, ... moreIt is really strange why they struggle so much, they have been in it for a long time.

First alone with some odd entries. Then as SonyEricsson, with some (for the time) quite interesting devices. And alone again they also have had some OK stuff.

Though the only thing that really set them apart was that they for a long time tried to offer more compact flagship speced devices than others outside Japan (starting at the least as far back as the SonyEricsson "Ray" in 2011/2012)

Ben, 01 Jun 2019So how come worlds first is in red for years now? Maybe, ... moreOr maybe, just maybe, they were ahead of time. When Sony had water resistance, it was "useless gimmick", because noone will go swimming with their phone. Today, manufacturers are bragging with their water resistant flagships. When Sony used glass for the back of their phones, it was "useless gimmick", because aluminum was the way to go. Today, manufacturers are bragging with their newest all glass flagships.
Today, Sony have 4K HDR OLED screens, but it's just a "useless gimmick", because noone needs that. One day manufacturers will brag how awesome is their new flagship, with a 4K HDR OLED screen.
And you, you will still write comments how Sony chose wrong first to be.

All you had to do, was to follow the damn train, Sony.

The train of progress and quality.
To give excellent quality in cameras and audio output in the phones.

To give, exactly what we expect from the manufacturer of the best TV's, audio players and dslr's in the world.
                      That's what we expected.

And all we got was competition always staying a step ahead overall.

                        Xperia Z, first hd 1080...

just like most phone companies nowadays, they're also very good at making compromised $1000+ 'high-end' phones

only difference is that there's not enough suckers that buy into their scheme unlike with other brands. too bad so sad.

It’s sad to see the current state of Sony Mobiles. No one is denying those innovations but Sony won’t give what the consumers want or looking for. Seems like they don’t read feedbacks often. I wonder if there’s a trojan horse inside Sony Mobiles Division who swore to destroy and devalue.
