People dont fall for it not because of the design, but given specs for its price. Camera, storage, ram, battery all are mediocre compare to other competition on that time, for the same price, they just couldnt catch up. And of course Z series Omnibalance design looks great too.
I'm dissapointed with Sony strategy, really. I mean they could nail it, but they wont, just for the sake of bigger profit.

Both S10 and P30 have thinner GG coating compared to Xperia 1 and XS Max. Then XS Max is not true IP68, after few months of usage phone becomes uncompliant to IP68 rating it's a design flaw. That's just one of the few things that go into the hand of Xperia 1

As I know, Kimio Maki's biggest challenge after Xperia XZ2 series disappointed a lot of fans... I mean, they should keep the XZ1 design with XZ2 screen real estate (XA2 Plus was their best 2018 design and the device I described here) or resurrected the Xperia Z design with XZ2 screen after XZ1 in the first place, which only happening now with Xperia 1/1R/2/10/20...

Sony failed to make a decent phone in terms of overall experience for so long.
Xperia 1 may be the best they made in years, but the market has changed.
What Sony lost the most isn't money, but the trust of their users. With so many pricey "flagships" with many shortcomings, they should've seen this coming.

Their are so many better options for budget now Sony cannot compete @ their pricing.

The only salvation i see is to collaborate with other brands, i personally would love to see them team up with xiaomi for phones and TVs. It's technology and know-how combined with market share and appeal. That's like a modern day sony Ericsson

Well Sony mobile pulled out in most SE Asia countries. If I'm not mistaken only SG and HK have sony mobile in SEA and their a bit behind in implementing new trends (triple camera, face unlock) on their phone. Sony give us an all screen phone with XZ1 Compact dimensions and include a 4000mAh battery. bring back the headphone jack as well.

I dont know why people give negative comments about Sony, I didn't find any other brand more stable than Sony. When will people become aware of samsung negative marketing approach.

As predicted. Xperia 1 is a great phone, but its too late.
Blame on the marketing?
- Nonsense. Every other brand spends a lots of money on the marketing, Sony spend zero or less, but still put a higher price. (Playing dirty for more profit)
Blame on the Headphone jack?
- Look at Iphone, Samsung, Huawei. They all got rid of it but still success.
Blame applying features late than other competition?
- Of course. Multi camera, big battery, supercharge.
Blame the blind fanboys?
- Absolutely. Whats more pathetic eventhough Xperia has it cons, for them its the king, perfect, bashing other brands whereas people already know the truth.
Less sale every year, this year is the worst, means that many ex Sony users already jump to other brand, including me. I'm still a fan of Sony, but not a blind one. My last Sony is Z5 (lots of Sony phones before). Now switch to Huawei, never regret.

sm4rt4ss, 02 Aug 2019S10e is 5.8" and is considered compact by todays standards.... moremobile phone company push us to big phone as they can't make small mobile phone with big battery capacity and thin body. but sony almost make it happen.

It is about time to make also 4.7 inch phones again. There is a huge market share for small screens and all the manufacturers are ignoring it .

I was Sony fan but now I will buy any phone I like. I don't talk about cheap phones from lost or failed brands. Other than that any decent phone will do all tasks gladly.
