AnonD-558092, 07 Sep 2019Sigh. You missed the point. Android "works" but a significa... morebecause stupid Google is playing drug dealer - first shot for free, now you have to pay.
All that play services deliver could be part of aosp or made OSS, but it's devilish Google plan to close more and more parts of android.
The biggest advantage of services is location and push... the former can be replaced with unlp and different providers so maybe Huawei will include that. the latter... I'd argue that Google should be forced to provide open API for push so anyone can run own push sercice5(and providing such API would be VERY simple, contrary to what Google may claim)

Here, Huawei is afflicted by a government-issued trade sanction. Google only complies with applicable laws. Nothing anticompetitive here.

Cyberchum, 07 Sep 2019The level of ignorance and pretense on this thread is quite... moreWhile you are indeed correct that the "masses" want something that works out of the box with a simple log-in, what is discussed here are potential solutions. I mean, if someone has a problem with its device, he or she may seek help, and someone might instruct this person to follow some mildly technical steps they might not even know about. They can still do it if guided through. And then they (hopefully) learned something. I'm participating in a support forum and even total newbs seek help before returning their phone. And then we help solve the problem and the person is happy.

123, 07 Sep 2019So I paied 900eur for brand new mate20pro back in september... moreYour current device is safe. It's new products only that are affected. Unfortunately, you're right that its value has plummeted due to this. Unfortunately again, your carrier has nothing to do with this. Unless you can prove that they knew about the risk of this happening all the way back when you bought it and didn't disclose it to you.

So I paied 900eur for brand new mate20pro back in september 2018, and now it's worth, maybe 300eur maximum
In 1 year it will be worth 150eur
I will go after my rights at the carrier's shop. Will not pay premium for manufacturer of my phone not any more 100% working with google, which leads to crazy low prices and no buyers at all for your 2nd hand huawei of any kind at least this and next year till new OS comes in which on the other hand won't come to mate20pro and only to new 2020 models for example

Cyberchum, 07 Sep 2019The level of ignorance and pretense on this thread is quite... moreI get what you're trying to say, but to be fair, the sideloading processes can be easily done even for average non-tech-enthusiastic consumer if Huawei prepares the one-click installer on AppGallery and writes clearly how to download the installer on a manual or a box that the phone comes with. The real question here is, will Google allow them to use their services?

Cyberchum, 07 Sep 2019Most of people you call noobs are knowledgeable on some are... moreNo one said they're not good at anything else, but some people even get scared to do something when the phone just told them to set the language when it's brand new, they are noobs at phones and that's about it, not an insult to get defensive.
Huawei is going to have a bad time ahead for this transition.

For once, we may be able to buy a clean uncluttered phone.

Sounds interesting. After all, the world needs a viable third mobile OS since not all people are interested with the Google-Apple duopoly. I myself left Android for Windows Phone and later on to Windows 10 Mobile as my daily driver some three years ago, and to this day I never think of going back to Google's mobile OS.

But shaking up that duopoly is not easy. Not only just Windows Phone, but the likes of Ubuntu Touch, BlackBerry 10 and Sailfish OS couldn't shake them well enough.

Adul Al Salami Kebab, 07 Sep 2019Well legally speaking, since the Huawei phone is gonna be a... moreMost of people you call noobs are knowledgeable on some areas you barely—if you do at all—know something about. They are ignorant about phones, yes, but interests differs. Everyone is ignorant of something. The problem is with people acting like geniuses on topics they ate not well-versed on.

And no! This is not an anti-competitive practice. You think Google like this? EU can't step in.

Why does the EU not ban Google for anti-competitive practices? The fact that 95% of everyone rely on their apps is a good example of how broken their monopoly is and any phone maker forced to fend without it is helpless thanks to people not thinking. x-x

The level of ignorance and pretense on this thread is quite alarming. Everyone is acting like a nerd wannabe. How many percent of phone purchases do you think are made by tech enthusiasts? How many buyers know what sideloading an app means? How many know what adb is? I'm sure that there are some who don't even know what apk is, or even the android version their phones are running on. Most buyers want to buy something that simply works out-of-the-box; not something they'd have to seek the service of a techie before using. And once they have a bad experience with a brand, they'd hardly consider the brand again.

And how many of you even have more than $500 to spend on a phone? Some of y'all are the same people complaining about the price of the K20 series. Lmao. A lot of geniuses we have here.

for december i planned to replace my current phone with a new one, apple or android to be seen. I promise i will not mind if I get a google apps stripped down android, not for a single nanometer, not for single picosecond....

great. finally someone is creating an alternative to google play store.
