You can no longer install Google apps on the Mate 30 Pro

02 October 2019
Long story short - it's unsafe so Huawei and Google no longer allow it.

AnoM, 03 Oct 2019I think all of those who comment here, please be neutral, o... moreI can't believe you're actually trying to defend their illegal and immoral activities. How many Western companies actively engage in corporate espionage like the Chinese do on a regular basis? Last I checked American companies don't routinely plant spies in each other companies, then blatantly steal their patents and other IP, and then go and hide behind domestic laws. This isn't just about tech, it's rampant in many different industries and sectors including the military. The Chinese does this and believe it's justifiable because they think it's patriotic and laudable.

Yes, almost all companies do collect and store some form of user data, but I'd rather trust a democratic country with my data than an authoritarian one that can do far, far worse with it. At least democratic nations have laws and safeguards in place to protect you in some way, whereas laws in an authoritarian one are totally meaningless and can be abused or neglected all-together.

And fair trade IS important. If your only argument is "the world is unfair" then it isn't much of an argument at all. Nothing would ever change if everyone shared your overly-simplistic and cynical point of view. This goes far beyond smartphones, it's economic warfare.

[deleted post]Oh, look who got emotional. Cry us a river.

They're trying so hard to peddle their latest ploy to take down Trump with so much fake news. They've been trying ever since 2016, and now they're more desperate than ever before because the presidential election is only a year away. They know they can't beat him the democratic way and they're scared to death of a second Trump term.

Anonymous, 03 Oct 2019We don't care either, so what's your point?! Google, and it... moreThe number of Chinese manufacturers sells about 45% of the entire android market. Samsung takes up about 50%.

Android is nothing without Chinese manufacturers AND Samsung.

If the Chinese manufacturers leave android, that's about 45% of the market gone. If Samsung decides to bail on android, google's left with nothing. I don't believe app developers will want to develop for the 5% google android users. Better to develop for Samsung's 50% or Chinese 45%.

Android too big to fail? Think again.

Anonymous, 03 Oct 2019That's fantastic! Good for you! Please, go right ahead and ... moreI think the Chinese are smarter than that.
Generally, they will just copy what they want, use what they want. They will even make it better than the original in some cases.
Do you think they really care?
Hint: If you think they care, you are really naive.

The only one making a fuss about the whole thing will be everyone else trying to sell to the 1.4 billion people in China.

*shrug* it took out Iraq because Iraq was trying to come out with a new currency that will render USD obsolete as a trade currency.

Only problem is, China turns out to be a 300 pound gorilla that is also a bully the size of US.

China doesn't "steal" technology, it demands companies turn it over in exchange for trade into China. If Apple doesn't want to sell their phones in China, they can avoid giving any technology to China. That goes for ANY other companies in the world. In any business deal, if a company thinks it's not fair, it can just walk away. Don't do business with the other party.

Not sure what's with the general US crybabies that found out that they can't bully someone else anymore.

Modest Mind, 02 Oct 2019This App coundn't have been developed without the help of H... moreCorrect! Most of China's tech are stolen intellectual property from the West especially USA. There are alot Chinese scientists, engineers working in top company in US ranging from airplane, military, medical equipment, computers ... You name it. Some of them stole secrets either by force or large sum of money and hand it over Chinese. Oh don't ask me proof haha. Now American company trust Indian more than Chinese for some of key top management positions. China are farmland under Mao 50-70 yrs ago. Even today most Chinese's tech still rely on western tech at least 50% or more. They are not capable of self reliance yet. Can Hauwei make their own 100% phone? The answer is NO. Why don't they create their own OS in the first place? Because they cant. They still spend 16 billion/yrs for western technology.

Almost all China's trade barriers have been in place before it joined the WTO. They even lowered some in order to join, yet many barriers remain high almost two decades later.

Just look at the WTO tariff profile between the US and China:
                                    https://www.wto.org/english/res_e/statis_e/daily_update_e/tariff_profiles/US_E.pdf

                                    Average tariff rate:
                                    US: 2.4, 19.2, 5.0, 3.0,3.6...
