Been using AOSP as custom ROM on lot of phones.
Smooth buttery experience with cherry picked tweaks and features.

It's probably better this way. If they were to ditch Android altogether, then most casual buyers would avoid buying Huawei phones due to that, which would hurt Huawei immensely.
Replacing GMS is a far more viable option. All they need to focus on is getting all popular app developers on board, which won't be an easy task, but doable nonetheless.

Huawei shouldn't replace android which is already an amazing OS. If you don't like it go and buy overpriced iPhone with weak specs and limited iOS.

Posts claiming it's only Huawei fanboys that are pushing for a Google alternative are hilarious. Majority are not fanboys and don't care about huawei. They detest Google monopoly and want more competition and less reliance on Americans.

Do you know how big and strong is Huawei? your mobile operator, your internet provider have in there rooms Huawei equipment, so you can use internet and make a phone calls. Remember, Huawei is strong as hell for xx years in telecomunication world. And i'm not talking about mobile devices, this was always second part of the company. Is the same if you think how Ericsson was famous with phones..no was not, maybe for you..but Huawei, Ericsson, Motorola are big in other things. Huawei have everything to build up new OS, any kind of OS, even if in first year/s only for Chinese markets.

[deleted post]Will they ask, do you want me to bend forwards or backwards?
You can't be too leanient, but the blank ban on using US technology is the problem that led to the new paradigm. Even if they let them have Android, by then, they will be aiming to also have the alternative. They flushed maybe trillions of dollars of trade benefit down the drain. The same thing happened with bloody mindedness on the silicon sector, where the Chinese super charged the development of their home silicon industry in response, now American companies are in the cross hairs. Trillions more dollars down the drain. As Arm uses American technologies, they will probably be wanting to replace them too with alternatives, RISCV being an open source one. An in China international eco system means, that they can do the spying instead. It also might mean phones are less package (to Americans too) as the Chinese won't want the competition in that area, thar the Americans allow. Unreal.

The eco system is where the money is. Now a company can get paid money by their government to exclusively get people's data rather than a US company being paid by the US government. Go team America!
With the app eco system, of course the development community will want to hop on board to get better access to the Chinese market, in a pre-approved way. This will lead to an app store which can be installed on and converted to, the new OS latter. App developers from around the world beating to a new drum. Go team America. :( (unreal, this is against patriotic core values).

Harmony os been used on IOT devices such as tablets and tvs. I think in a couple years every TV out of China will ship with harmony and if they do decide to use harmony as a mobile os it will already be well known.

Good luck Huawei if you think its easier to make a new Facebook and Youtube, instead of a new os.. so Huawei finally admits that no developers want to spend time on a crappy unnessesary Chines OS that only Huawei needs, and no one else care about.
