2019 Winners and Losers: Huawei and Honor

26 December 2019
It would probably launch alongside the upcoming Xperia flagship in February.

2. I agree with your opinion on a presence/lack of a headphone jack, but you're not answering Gamerman's question.
3. Having a proprietary external storage standard is something I call a crappy move, but definitely not "planned obsolescence". You're basically using a term in a wrong situation.
4. I agree.
5. On top of that, poor camera performance, lack of any form of water resistance, a body that weighs 240g, is just as tall as Mate 20X and is nearly 1cm thick despite having less screen estate, slower charging and no wireless charging.

Still with all that bad advertising or propaganda from Trump agenda Huawei managed o stand still and stands strong.
They re winners of 2019 no matter which way or how we looks at them .

It has higher battery capacity, but bad standby drain. For anyone, a 4500 mAh and 6000 mAh phone both provide a day of battery life, and everyone charges their phone everyday.

        >Headphone jacks are so convenient to use and sounds WAY BETTER than existing Wireless/ Bluetooth.

Yes I know, which is why I bought a P30 Lite. Also, if you are squirming over the jack, you likely will never even buy a flagship as you see value in things. Flagships are not value for money.

        >There is nothing good about this. Almost all of Huawei's Android competitors are still SUPPORTING microSD cards which is STANDARD since day 1 of Android. So if we were to come from an existing android phone to Huawei Mate Series, our current microSD cards would not fit and the result, a PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE move by Huawei. And we will be "forced" to buy NM cards which are currently MORE EXPENSIVE than existing microSD cards. If we can't afford, cloud is the ONLY OPTION and one of the WORST comes to WORST situation as privacy is concerned.

Love how you made this whole paragraph SuPeR cLiCkBaiTy. Also, having a semi-proprietary card slot is better than having none compared to Pixel and iPhone (and even Samsung soon).

NOTE: I said "semi-proprietary" because the standards to make NM cards are open, and this in NO WAY is restricted like those Sony Memory magic stick cards, which only Sony could make and license. So any 3rd party card maker can make NM cards as option.

        >Why are you so obsessed with "mixing" Google with rabbit hole, based on the posts you made??

Because the excuse of GMS is not valid for everyone, as everyone and GSMArena makes it out to be. They are simply afraid of the tiny inconvenience that comes without those spyware services.

        >That ROG 2 isn't inferior by any means aside from the lack of expandable storage.

ROG2 is an inferior phone in terms of display brightness and accuracy, in terms of camera objectively in every possible way, in terms of standby drain, in terms of charging speeds both wired and wireless, in terms of lacking secure face scanning tech, being far heavier at 240g vs 198g, having no card slot vs semi-proprietary NM card slot, not having IR blaster vs having one.

That seems to be a lot of cons for your value phone. Clearly inferior aside the inclusion of 3.5 jack and a larger battery (which translates to more SOT, not standby time).

Okay than compare it against Note 10+ 5G if you are so sure that Mate 30 5G Pro is the best. You can't compare against tiny hole in the best display around or against nice design of the back side (Mate 30 looks terribly) and one more thing S Pen.

I can't speak about EMUI 10 because I am still waiting for it to arrive and yes I have zero knowledge about 99% consumers but that was my opinion and not the opinion of everyone else. Yeah I don't like policies of Google and Apple either so I agree with you on that but I am slightly mad on Huawei for putting their ads everywhere (in real life) so that's why I kinda hate it. Also I don't like what they have been doing with their hardware (recycling models) so another bad point for them.

Anonymous, 27 Dec 2019excuse me but EMUI 10 is so great for me. Good for you then. I am still waiting for EMUI 10 to happen (Honor 8X).

There is some weird reason why all flagships have 60 Hz screens. Oh wait, because they can be calibrated better, are brighter and give more battery life.

                                  LOSER: Mate 30 Series
No GMS is a minus for many of us around the world who are dependent on Google Services such as Google Docs, Sheets etc except China. It also means without play store, we are simply taking a risk to install other app stores which may not be safe just to install apps. Also, NM card is a niche feature (incompatible with existing micro SD) and there is NO 3.5mm jack on the so-called "Pro" moniker.

                                  LOSER: EMUI
EMUI is resource heavy (in terms of battery & RAM consumption) even though it is smooth to use. Also EMUI has Huawei AI Engine built in means the EMUI does the job for you whatever tasks you have executed at the cost of battery life. Turning them off helps to save battery. Devices with EMUI also has LOCKED bootloader (NO way to unlock the bootloader) since early last year which means NO custom ROMs development.

                                  LOSER: Nova 5 Series
This series itself is too messy in my opinion. Some do NOT come with 3.5mm jack as STANDARD, uses NM card ONLY unlike last year's Nova 3 series which is all-rounded with 3.5mm jack & microSD card expansion which is the STANDARD.

                                  LOSER: Huawei company in GENERAL
It is headed by a CEO with "business" and "under table" ties to the CCP (headed by President for Life "Winnie the Pooh"). Which means they can easily "spy" on your activities using Huawei devices around the world. Even with the trade war, the company also have Harmony OS, yet another PROPRIETARY OS for Huawei ONLY. Using Huawei Mobile Services is still just as proprietary to GMS. No one knows for sure whether HMS is more "invasive" than GMS.

Anonymous, 27 Dec 2019excuse me but EMUI 10 is so great for me. Same here, I dont think the kid knows what he talks about.

Personally, I liked P30 Pro more than Mate 30 Pro due to it's amazing periscope zoom & a non-waterfall display. I'm expecting the P40 Pro to top them both with it's revamped periscope camera along with the cine camera of the Mate 30 Pro. I'm also hoping that it uses the standard curved screen instead of the new waterfall one. It could be one of the most advanced smartphone Huawei has made in recent years.

The only real compromise in latest Huawei phones is the lack of GMS, but even that is only a problem if you are dependent on the Google ecosystem.

To all those making comparisons with Rog Phone 2. It's like comparing a Porsche with an F1 race car. The F1 is faster, but is not for the general public. The Ferrari is for anyone who can afford it.

Similarly, the Rog Phone 2 is faster, but nobody except gamers &/or youngsters would use it due to its tacky look & feel.

Also, the Rog Phone 2 doesn't offer any water proofing, wireless charging, telephoto camera, etc. So it isn't without it's compromises either.
