Samsung developing a massive 1" 150MP sensor, Xiaomi phone with it coming in Q4

17 March 2020
Finally, a sensor larger than that inside the Nokia 808 PureView. Besides Xiaomi, Oppo and vivo are also interested in the sensor.

Sony RX100 I, II and III used 20.1MP non-stacked, same used by old versions of RX10 series.
I do not know if Canon compacts uses 20.1 MP too.

Screw this NonaBayer crap. This doesn't compete with the native 40MP beast that Nokia put out 8 years ago. S20 Ultra was an epic fail, but they still wanna continue on that direction.

Hopefully someone else will develop a proper 1" sensor with QB approach instead. Not only would that provide better detail with 37.5MP snaps, it would also allow proper 8K video (8K requires 34MP~)

The s20 ultra clearly proved that this technique has reached a point of diminishing returns.

This is becoming ridiculous. With a 1 inch sensor they'd be the only ones to match the Panasonic cm1. That is huge. But making it over 150mp is such a waste.
If they made that about 40mp with dual pixel focus, ois, and their dual aperture it would smoke the competition. It would produced very detailed photos. But still have large enough pixels to operate nicely in low light, hdr, exposure, noise, etc. And it wouldn't need to be so aggressively processed.

The 108mp of the s20 ultra still can barely match the 40mp Nokia 808 from about 7 years ago! That's sad

going to be great looking video, more accurate color saturation, and finally phones will have much less warping of images. (fish eye affect)

The high resolution megapixel count purely to fool average joe & marketing purposes are getting ridiculous.

This is not a medium format sensor for godsake. We already saw how wasted S20 Ultra has done to the sensor. Just put 20mp with 2.4 micron pixel size with that 1" sensor without pixel binning and call it a day!

Combining the light signals from 9 pixels and forming into one super pixel would mean a great boost in dynamic range.
It also explains why the S20 Ultra takes less flat-looking images compared to last year's S10/Note 10 series.
The HDR is still working, except less software enhancement is performed this time, making the final result more realistic even if it means less eye-catchy.

                                      You lose corners.
150 is total count, effective is always lower value.

And once again GSMA forgot that we already had 1" sensor in the Android realm.
Lumix CM1, by some called a smart camera, was actually an Android phone with compact camera capabilities and was a response to Galaxy K Zoom.
It was a proper flagship back then, with SD801 and 2GB of RAM. The rear camera was a 1" 20MP sensor, with pixel size of 2.4 micron. And all that released in late 2014.
Compare that to Galaxy S5, released the same year, but with a tiny 1/2.6" sensor.
