Weekly poll: the Nokia 8.3 5G marks many firsts for HMD, but is the price too ambitious?

05 April 2020
The 8.3 is the first Nokia with 5G connectivity and also the first with a 64MP camera. But €600 sounds a bit steep.

AnonD-546724, 05 Apr 2020600 bucks for an LCD screen Lol a lot of $600 phones don't have those features. Yes it's a little overpriced but flagship phones with those features cost way more than this

Nokia, How dare u to desire 600$ from us? What u think your products is made of? How u calculated the price? Are u claiming that you are famous and had much reputation before? Wake up. It’s a long time ago, and now other companies are already gone far away.

"this phone will aim to please cameraphone enthusiasts (...) the phone also packs a 2MP macro cam and a 2MP depth sensor."

LOL, any cameraphone enthusiast knows that depth/macro sensors are perfectly useless and their only job is to attract people who know nothing of the cameras... As for the poll... Sure if it was for 200$ it would be a fantastic deal, but it's where it's at, which is exactly 'not any good'. By the time it gets at least to 400$ there will be just better deals (and by the time it's 400$, Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite or ZTE Axon 11 5G will be 250$ so... Really pointless phone). Shame how Nokia has fallen.

The only thing that they are doing is use the Nokia brand to overprice some junk and sell them to people that still believe that they are buying from the old Nokia. Basically fooling people. A lot of Chinese business have done the same buying old Western brand that were succes in the past. People need to start to learn and investigate what they are buying in reality, including the technology and components that really worth for the price they are paying

Samsung S8+ Owner, 05 Apr 2020it's pathetic that they stick with Prehistoric LCD screens.... moreLike Samsung TVs?

If you're a Tech—Savvy Person. I suggest that you should refrain comparing Chinese Phones to NOKIA. Because NOKIA was Introduce/make a Phones since 90's.

So the dilemma here is there's a conflict within comparing phones who makes how many decades ago vs. new player.

This is thing doesn't make sense at all, basic mid-range specs for a premium price, and comparing it with the Xperia 1 just because of the Zeiss branding is stupid, their using the same sensor you could find in 200€ smartphones. Please HMD stop making this nonsense and work on true mid-range smartphones with reasonable prices.

Could have been better deal even if it have SD865 for the same price

                      Cons
                      1. too heavy
                      2. no AMOLED
                      3. extra tall screen
                      4. has an interruption on the screen (hole)
                      5. 64 MP, f/1.9, (wide), PDAF (NO OIS) is not a flagship sensor
                      6. No telephoto camera
                      7. no stereo speaker
                      8. too expensive against overall specs

It is expensive for obvious reasons. It covers all 5G bands which even a flagship doesn't. I would suggest GSM Arena to add that as well in their post. And I don't think anyone can rival Chinese companies in their prices.

This one's an epic fail, it might've sold due to 007 promoting it, but looks like that too, isn't gonna happen due to the crisis all humanity's facing. With no solution in sight, it'll be no surprise if the film's release gets further postponed. By that time, there'll be whispers for new Samsung flagships (depending on supply chain situations) and countless others, plus existing one's prices would have dropped to maybe just a little over it. Lastly, with the news of 4G phones price drop, there's every chance people could get an affordable flagship.

Bad bad business blunder by babbling, bumbling Nokia.

2mp depth & 2mp macro? Why? I don't understand the depth sensor. Why? For that fake depth effect? I'm the only one who wants zoom?
