Flashback: HTC One was a rebel with a unique camera and great speakers

05 April 2020
Remember the UltraPixel camera? It had only 4MP resolution, but those pixels were 2.0µm in size, much larger than the competition.

The m8 was the best phone I've ever had, design display battery, speakers

I miss this HTC. It has done a lot of things right, camera, audio, UI, etc.
If they came back which a phone as good as this one, I'm sure they'll sell lots of them.
It was the pinnacle of what HTC has ever made in my opinion.

r33fd, 05 Apr 2020HTC mistake was pricing their phones same as Samsung and Ap... moreEven if used better hardware and put a lower price, they would still have a hard time beating the likes of Samsung and Apple because no one ever heard of them except true tech enthusiasts.

The only phone with larger native pixel than this HTC is the Panasonic Lumix CM1 with 2.4µm, but that phone has a 1-inch sensor so that's understandable.

But speaking of HTC One, the One M8 launched the following year would see the first ever smartphone in the world with a dual-camera setup, even though the secondary camera was just a mere depth sensor.

Samsung S3 /S4 = cheap lastic that even current $90 phones do not use. Mono audio, worse versions of touchwiz, poor updates, low battery quality

Apple = HD screen, microscopic battery, mono audio, vga front cam

I still have the Sony Z in those pictures as a secondary phone. Still working great and lagless after so many years.

I'd say it was the best and the most revolutionary phone ever built \m/

Impressive article, HTC has a major issue between what want to offer to the customers and what customers want. HTC offers the best of the customers from their point of view, but customers want other better things from their point of view. Daddy few customers accept HTC point of view.

I miss those days, a lot of nostalgia. I had the HTC one and one s. Both amazing phones.

HTC mistake was pricing their phones same as Samsung and Apple even though they were clearly inferior in hardware in almost every way.

Pretty much same mistake as LG.
Had they used better hardware or target a lower price audience they could be prospering even today.

This was my favorite phone until the M8 came out then that became my fav HTC phone to date.. I still have my M8 stashed away as a collectors item. Great phones!

This was really HTC at its best...I wish it made a comeback in 600-700 USD price range, using OnePlus strategy i.e. clean, fluid software. HTC already has amazing build quality.

Component decisions haven't been the best and their prices are simply not competitive.

Good phone at the moment, especially the design. It successfully made the samsung s4 looks cheap. Best screen ppi at the time. I had have it, but it let me down because some problem: yellow tint screen, purple/pink tint camera, swollen battery and also, it was unable to repair without damage the phone (ifixit give score 1/10 for repairability). I thought those was the reason that make the sales down after few months. By the way, I think htc was a cool smartphone brand, and now for me oneplus is cool as htc at that time.

If they bring back same design and material I would gladly buy it now I hate glass phones and bottom firing Speakers

                              LOL.
And some ppl say iphone 6 was based on this.
                              They are very different.

                              Curved back x flat back
                              Cam positions (front and rear)
                              Front speaker x bottom speaker

HTC One M8 Red is my best looking phone EVER! That glorious glamour red with black antena stripes and front facing speakers really gave me out of this world feeling...

I would buy again if they remake 6" size phone again today

Still my favorite phone. Why did I trade it in? Oh yah for the Hawei Pixel.

If they had continued with the camera concept, bigger sensors would have come sooner

One of the best designed phone of all time, good old days;)
Nowadays every phone is glass or plastic brick:(

I had one and used it for 3 years: definitely one of the best designed and most unique smartphones ever made, I really loved it :)!
