Samsung Galaxy Note20+ to have a 108MP sensor, 50X zoom

03 June 2020
It will keep a tri-cam setup like the Galaxy Note10+, the ToF is getting replaced by a laser focus sensor.

in mobile phone lens u cant exceed 12 mp camera, that is the reason iphone having maximum 12mp camera. first of all mega pixel depends on lens size, in big camera lens u can take upto 30 megapixel thats maximum .i dont know why people believe fake configurations 100mp 200mp 500megapixel oh my god thats all in tiny camera lens impossible.

Hope the 50x isn't a non functional gimmick like the 100x zoom

indlvarn, 03 Jun 2020Boring and overpriced phone. Great news for Apple.Any phone costing beyond $1000 is overpriced IMO.
But might as well give it all out and have every feature a person would need, like a 3.5mm jack, 4K HDR OLED screen (with no cutout), true front facing stereo speakers, advanced camera system, etc.

LG Superfan, 03 Jun 2020Why not keep both ToF and laser AF? And I am sure no one is... moreToF is essentially a Laser AF but with depth mapping capabilities included. Having Laser AF would've been unnecessary there.
But the only way to achieve extremely good focusing speed and accuracy is by doing the same thing that Sony did with their X1 II. By lowering the pixel count, the sensor speed readout improves significantly to as little delay as 10ms, allowing for continuous full-resolution burst of up to 20 times per second, with continuous AF/AE re-calculation done 60 times per second.
108MP is simply way too much for individual pixels to have reliable enough focusing capabilities. Also, it has already been seen that 9-to-1 pixel binning is nothing sort of impressive enough to consider its caveats, so maybe going for a lower resolution sensor and sticking to standard quad bayer sensor would boost the focusing performance greatly.

Android Master, 03 Jun 2020Now I would have preferred they put the 50MP GN1 sensor wit... moreI think that sensor was made to be sold to others like Xiaomi, who we all know is the biggest customer of Samsung parts.
It's exactly the case when they've announced the Bright HMX sensor, but it was intended to be sold while they make their own Bright HM1, which is exclusive only to them.
Same thing with Sony. Their flagships all used exclusive sensors and were never found on other phones.

Anonymous, 03 Jun 2020Of course they will use that 108mp sensor even though it ha... moreIt's a matter of making the Note version an stylus version of their S flagship counterpart.
We can only expect new things on the next generation of the product lineup, so this 108MP sensor may be replaced on the S30 lineup instead, as Samsung is going to match the S20 Ultra's camera system on the Note 20+.

Anonymous, 03 Jun 2020Even Xperia CAN'T use all pixel for AF. They top out at 70%... moreObviously. The only difference is that Sony was honest enough to tell it on their marketing campaigns, while Samsung used to brag about this feature back in the S7 days with the claims of "all pixels are used as focusing agents."

AhmedSLL, 03 Jun 2020Maybe this is not what you meant, but one could understand ... more990 uses mali g77. And it's not that the g77 is that bad in efficiency. It's the set up of the 990 that made it a little lack luster.
If they used a few more g77 cores and clocked then a little lower it would be much more stable. Not to mention they had a very tight heat and power envelope to watch with the cpu just as much.

It is also clearly obvious that you are not a Note user so why would you be dipping your toes into a Note article when it has nothing to do with your interests in the first place?

So GPU should match the Adreno inside SD865 While CPU will be better in Single core unless Samsung decides to downclock it with multi core performance matching SD865.

I wouldn't be surprised if the super-tele performance of the Note 20 is better than the S20 Ultra. 50x instead of 100x means absolutely nothing because this has nothing to do with the camera. That's just a software restriction.
They use a smaller sensor. This means that they can combine the sensor with the same lens of the S20 Ultra. A 12megapixel crop of the 13 megapixel sensor would give you a 163mm equivalent pericope camera instead of 103mm.
So if they use the same lens, you would get a better performance for distant objects, not worse.

Anonymous, 03 Jun 2020Problem is not PDAF, it is poor software. Most phones are... moreThe hell, it is not all about software.. S10 series is actually better than the S20 Ultra at focusing because it has a relatively much smaller sensor. While the S20 Ultra uses a much bigger sensor. And a bigger sensor really can't shoot too much close from the subject.

Decided to change the battery in my old S7, feels like a perfect small flagship to me. Will wait for proper small samsung flagship with underscreen camera next year, maybe s21 or note21 with qhd+, 120hz ltpo both on a small version and a proper exynos. If that won't exist next year, basic iphone12 sounds like a decent option with 5.4 screen and finally not a 720P resolution like it was with XR and a basic 11. 475 PPI is tolerable on such a cheap flagship (650$).

And what good will AMD GPUs do in phones other tha... moreMaybe this is not what you meant, but one could understand from what you're saying that the gpu is in sleep mode unless you're gaming. It's a graphic processor, so it's responsible for everything that is "graphic", yes gaming is where you need a powerful gpu, but it must be as power efficient as possible too, and before even the exynos 990, some questions were raised about the power efficiency of the G77 compared to the G76.
But what you said about the CPU is absolutely correct, in the exynos 990, they used older less efficient cores (A76 instead of the A77) and 2 proprietary cores that nobody knows on which architecture they were based.
So if the rumors are true, the CPU problem will be solved in the next 992 as they're going to use an arm architecture (instead of their own) and newer cores, but the GPU gap with the Snapdragon will still be there, that's why the AMD partnership is important.
