A special free-form lens should improve picture quality by a bunch.

...no woman no cry.... No Google no buy.
Even if you side load GMS, one and only update on Google's or Huawei's Policy and you could loose this ability forever. Even with the current side load "trick" of GMS, it doesn't support 100% every Application that relies on Google API's.

Anonymous, 14 Jun 2020Without Google Services, this is dead on arrival for anyone... moreGoogle Services are installed in 2 minutes, it is not an excuse.
And on the other hand, is your data also safe with Google or Microsoft, for example? Are you sure they don't spy on you? Hahaha ... what nonsense I have to read around here.
This is the best Android smartphone on the market with the best camera.

Everyone complains about the lack of services by Google, well it is true that life is hard without google...or you could just get the use the door and get all the apps you want, well it worked for my mate 30 at least.

Without Google Services, this is dead on arrival for anyone who uses secure apps. I wouldn't trust Huawei with my data anyway.

I've always thought Huawei's processing sucks, too. In other words, who cares about the hype.

Real.Talk, 13 Jun 2020The name you called me is not me but exactly just you. ... moreI deduced that it is very unlikely that it will have a Samsung's generic ISOCELL sensor when they have been ALWAYS using Sony's custom IMX and the main selling points of their camera features largely depend on the unique sensor structures they use (e.g. RYYB CFA for ultra high light sensitivity of the main camera, 16-in-1 pixel binning for super slow motion and low light video recording). I would be seriously surprised if they make a switch to Samsung on Mate 40 Pro.

My original comment that you're replying to is still there lol. They removed my following comment because that was a reply to your offensive comment that also got deleted, in case you didn't notice.
I do admit that I used strong words when I questioned the accuracy of this article. However, there shouldn't be any reason why YOU should be attacking me for making an assumption backed up by logic.

The real problem is when companies falsely advertise, do shady practices or when governments make stuff up ( propaganda and lies ) and make people they don't want, who are hurting their image completely disappear without a trace. They then keep on doing what they want because they are untouchable with private police, military ready to kill citizens and anyone in their way on the order of the highest one.
We have to fend for ourselves and this applies to tech as well, by not installing unnecessary apps because that's exactly what they mischievously planned to do with so many invasive permissions being one thing and constant nonstop remote connections harvesting data being another.

This is something that even Huawei is taking seriously, they already started on working with many local services in many countries to include their apps in the app gallery, but this process will take an eternity. I think huawei should start seeing that google are not serious about maintaining their partnership, there are many work arounds they could've done to fix many problems, yet they choose to do nothing.

Not gonna happen. Sony IMX are their only camera supplier. Last time i remember, both Sony & Huawei agree that they not gonna play the megapixel race. Maybe maxed out only at 64mp quad bayer.

Now the 9P free form lens seems like the real deal. They've been talking a lot about it along with the patented liquid lens system.

That used to serve as my frequent go-to-anywhere photography gear until I came across the MS Lumia 950. Since then, the Sony has been collecting dust in the drawer until I sold it. P40's main camera runs on cropped smaller resolution/size of sensor, should be way sharper than mate30 but is even less.
Nona bayer processing or more pixels may be harder to process, but considering it will come with new processor, it should be better than before.

They will think that life is fine without electricity and that fire is justifiably better than everything else.

For someone who's using a joke of a "smartphone" called the MS Lumia 950, another joke of a camera called the G7, perhaps it'll do you good to actually use modern-day technology instead of being a keyboard warrior. For example, G7 raw image quality can't even match up with last year's P30. There's no need to preach about what you don't know. But of course, #sour-grapes syndrome applies. The poor will always find fault with what they can't obtain.

FYI I shoot (at times professionally) with a 1D series or 5Dmk4 camera, and I carry 3 phones (Galaxy Note, Galaxy S series, and a 3rd phone that's not fixed for 6 sim cards from 4 countries I need active). The quality of a good phone camera is millions of miles away from a DSLR, but the convenience offered is millions of miles ahead of a DSLR.
