potato4k, 14 Aug 2020Why stop at 10%? Why not 5%? 1%? 0.5%? You see where this... more👏 It feels like once companies are big, people in it are evil lol. It's a big business with lots of expenses and while sometimes they make dubious decisions, people go there to work and make decisions with the best interest for the company. If developers don't like it, they can all take their businesses elsewhere and then Apple will get the hint. Their monopoly is their selling point and why Apple is popular and how developers leverage on it and now they are biting the hand that feeds them.

Anonymous, 14 Aug 2020Its because they have to review your app over and over agai... more30% is a lot especially as the app is only in the store and apple or google dont do any promotion for them so if you make 1 million in a year you need to pay 300k to apple and 300k to google so you have like 400k left to pay for your workers office and so on and even invest for improving the product. They look trough the apps for malware ok but asking 30% for it is still too much as after that these are release in the store it gives only profit for them

gmp005, 14 Aug 2020As a developer 30% is pretty high to pay to the App Stores ... moreWhy stop at 10%? Why not 5%? 1%? 0.5%?
You see where this is going?
Prior to digital distributions, developers have to partake at least 50% or more off their revenue to the middlemen. There is a reason why everybody was cheering at Apple when Jobs announced that they were only going to take 30%. But clearly greed will never stop.

Which part of the article says that the app was banned on Android??
"While Fortnite remains available on Android, we can no longer make it available on Play because it violates our policies."
It's still on Android but not on the store...so it's not a ban. Read well.

gmp005, 14 Aug 2020As a developer 30% is pretty high to pay to the App Stores ... moreIts because they have to review your app over and over again, with each update you make, and make sure you have not added any malicious code, or spyware, or other stuff. The app store offers users the comfort of not having to think twice before installing an app, knowing that it is totally safe and has been properly reviewed before being published. That is also why you have standards on physical products and you have institutions that review, analyse, and approve/reject your product(s).
And this is not done for free, as the people who review the apps need to be paid, and they need to be paid accordingly to the quality of review that is expected from them. Pay them too little and they will be tempted to become corrupt.
Also, your apps are stored and managed by Apple, as well as update distribution, user support, and so on. The 30% is nothing but fair.

SizN80, 14 Aug 2020Indeed,unfortunately the Apple haters jumped on the topic t... moreNot really. Their PC and console market, including their game Borderlands, is still their main source of revenue. I think they also have a stake for PUBG.

Epic ain't happy when you violate their T.O.S but they should be allowed to do so with Apple and Google right? Found it fishy that they had lowered their prices by 20% out of nowhere now I know why..

Note7 owner, 14 Aug 2020Go make your own app store, or go cry a river. Google Play ... moreSure they have their own app store for PC, they can easily make one for Android but the issue is even if they make one for iPhone there is no way in hell Apple would allow people to install it...

This is what their crappy doupoly have caused, this is not even a fair market Huawei & before them Microsoft (Windows Phone), Amazon (Fire phone) & Blackberry (BB10) were all pushed out of the market by Apple and Googles bullcrap for starters scrap GMS as a standard, no app should ONLY provide google sign in & finally iPhones needs to have more store options to install on the phone if the user want it...

Epic is using Apple and Google store to distribute its games so I say it's fair they charge something especially since it's being distributed for free
If Apple had a similar game and disallowed Fortnite that would be anti-competitive

As a developer 30% is pretty high to pay to the App Stores despite you pay them when you make your new account so why pay every time again and again. make it 10% and everything will be fine :D

Go make your own app store, or go cry a river. Google Play store has the same 30% commission fee as Apple and has also ban your App.
