Weekly poll: picking the perfect display (refresh rate, resolution, curved or flat)

10 January 2021
Which would you prefer - a 1080p+ display running at 120Hz or a 1440p+ one at 60Hz. Also, flat or curved?

It like monitors, people screaming 60Hz are fine are the ones never used high-refresh rate monitors.

90 Hz at 1440p/1080p is fine. Anything over than that is a waste in current phones

Higher refresh rate with standard resolution (1080p).

          Very interesting.

These features should be used to differentiate the phones so that consumers choose what they prefer. The problem nowadays is rebranding and not differentiation leaving consumers like me baffled. Samsung wants $120 and $1200 phones to have same plastic back, same 1080p screen while Xiaomi and oppo want a phone to be called 10 different names without proper differentiation. ODMs shoild go back to the drawing board and think.

AnonD-762416, 10 Jan 2021I see there are a lot of people selling the lie that refres... moreRefresh rate is important as long as you can see it and you blink at 20 ms which is 50 Hz. 60 Hz is approximately 17 ms. Input lag is more important than metric than so called proclaimed refresh rate. Great 60 Hz panel will have 17 ms input lag (direct mode), best gaming monitor with high refresh rate will reduce this to 8.9 ms (best that i know of). Variable refresh rate is good thing in games to leverage time frame latency and easy up deeps but that's all to it. It's much better to set the higher ground refresh rate to something reasonable 75~90 Hz even in case of games considering how GPU expensive it is. Trying to resolve UI lag issue's with high refresh rate is like pounding the mosquito with an hammer. Using an lo lv lo latency graphics api instead would be a normal thing to do along with removing other possible bottlenecks (hardware, future lib optimisations).

People that want flagships for some reasons but do not care about periscope, 120Hz, Qi charging, 12/16GB ram end up punished by those that ask for all those stuff.

I think 256/512GB storage are too unnecesary, even worse if phone has sd slot.

Reason why native FHD@120 uses less power than QHD at 1080p/120.
Native QHD@120 is gonna use less power than 4K at QHD/120.

These fake lower resolution mode is exactly what all xperia 4K already has done since Z5P. To render at FHD most stuff.

                        XZ2P and XA2U both have 3580 mAh.
                        XA2U has larger screen.
XA2U has much better battery endurance, by far.

We should always have the option to lock at 60. I care for battery life over smoothness. Besides certain games combined with chipsets that are good enough to handle higher frame rates, I don't see the appeal. It's another thing they can slap on the spec sheet to increase prices. Besides dedicating time at home or a long commute to/from work, how often do you game on your phone? Is it enough to justify the price tag? How many mobile games currently support 90 refresh rate? How about 120? Or 144? I see comments (not this thread in particular, just in general) complaining about price increases but yet we keep asking for high refresh rate, wireless charging and other things. The phone industry, for the most part, responds to what we want but we refuse to accept the price increase that comes with these added features.

1440p, 120hz & slightly curved displays for flagships. That's the whole point of going for a flagship model anyway.

Although those are my preferences, I can make exceptions if the phone has something special to offer to make up for the choice of inferior display.

Regarding the refresh rate, It can be 120 Hz only if it's adaptive.

                                    QHD @144Hz:- 1440 x 3360 x 144 = 696,729,600 pixels/secs

The data rate for QHD is 92% of UHD.
Hopefully, Sony can make UHD @120Hz work.

I like 1080p, 90Hz dispkay with subtle curves.
