Many of those people own several premium phones at the same time, but when the occasion arises, they would want to be seen with a Huawei premium phone in hand more than any other phones.
Mate 40 RS Porsche Edition has played such a role in the past few months. Now Mate X2 will be next phone to play such a role after 2021 Chinese new year.

If Huawei wants to limit the total sale volume of its P50 series, it is better to drop p50 and release only P50Pro and P50Pro+, and price both of them higher. Otherwise the supply will not be able to meet the demand. Since the demand for premium Huawei phones are so crazy high right now, there is no better way around.
Just think about this: at least 4.6 million pre-orders for Mate X2 ($2780) as of this morning (2-25-2021, 9AM). 4.6+ million pre-orders just from JD and Huawei site, not counting those from Alibaba and Sunning. A more realistic estimate will put the total number of pre-orders of Mate X2 well over 6 millions.
Aren't people crazy? 6 million buyers want a $2780 smartphone in China!

It looks like Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro+ (with GN2) will be the king of smartphone camera in early March, and P50 Pro (IMX800) will retake that position in late March or early April.
Huawei can pretty much price P50 series at any high price they want, the demand will still be way higher than the supply. My suggestion to Huawei, drop the P50, release only P50Pro and P50Pro+. Price them as follows:
P50Pro: starting $1200;
P50Pro+: starting $1500.
