I haven't owned a Sony phone in my life, but their designs asthetics always feel premium and uniquely pleasing. They're probably the last good company with phones having no notches or unequally-distributed screen real estate or such other nonsense.

Sony was already producing mobile phones when the Oppo's and Vivo's weren't born. Legendary ones as well; Walkman phones, Cybershot phones...
Hopefully Sony manages to maintain a position in this market, there are enough faithful buyers. I love my 5ii so far.

Shanti Dope, 02 Apr 2021That's what Qualcomm officially says, but we are defin... more"My phone with a SD765G can only record videos up to 4K 30fps, but with the help of a ported GCAM, I can somehow manage to record 4K 60fps videos with digital stabilization as well"
No, you haven't really proven anything. SD765G is capable of shooting a 4K video at 60fps, it's just the manufacturer decided to lock that particular feature on your midrange phone for whatever the reason (maybe in an attempt to differentiate it from their flagship lineups).

Of course, there's a very high chance that Sony will use a 4K display with 120Hz refresh rate support on Xperia 1 III, but if that ends up happening then I'm certain it will be implemented in a way that users can choose between 4K 60Hz and FHD 120Hz modes.. not both high resolution AND high refresh rate at the same time.

The point is 70mm is not 3x optical when someone in this article brag it is the real thing. More of hybrid optical or 'fake zoom'.

Yes Sony is heading for first ever profit for mobile division ... But no congratulation at all. ... sony is only happy by itself. Yes i know it is possible and easy to be profitable but what the use? i want the old Great Sony Mobile back. Now Sony only sell a handfull phone 10K unit per year? Yes you can made profit by hiring less mobile division employee. keep the same design .. no design cost.
Want the old Sony Mobile back sell to every country and sell to all store in millions of quantity. Everyone is using the proud Sony Brand mobile.
But now the situation like a small fast food subway hire 1 or 2 worker thats all of course can get profit. Advice to Sony Mobile better make it big or else better close shop. now no one know sony still sell mobile phone

potato4k, 02 Apr 2021Sony is stuck in the business model of the 90s.. When thing... moreWelp, it seems like the marketing strategy from 90s is much better than today's, as we get less annoying ads popping out of nowhere whenever we're consuming something.
They have enough money to invest on improving their marketing team, but we can only speculate that this is what Sony wants to do; to keep things lowkey instead.
I doubt Sony is really that stupid to not realize that they would need to invest heavily on marketing in order to compete with the big brands, so we can assume that they don't really want to beat other brands in the first place, and just become a great alternative for those who are looking for something unique instead.

STREET PUPPY, 01 Apr 2021Any phone more than $900 is very expensive. No matter the b... morethey opt not giving charger is not only save the charger cost. everyone need to understand storage space is reduce. and MOST IMPORTANT also more unit can fit in the damn contena.... means shipping costs is greatly reduced. Double the number of handphone can fit in a damn contena compare to previous. lorry transportation is also reduced.
Big cost saving to the company but as usual the final price is not reduced.

Normal slim bezels are just much better in general, as there would be more space for your hands to grip the phone without accidentally touching anything on the screen.

Nick Tegrataker, 02 Apr 2021From SD888 spec sheet:
Max On-Device Display: 4K @ 60 Hz... moreThat's what Qualcomm officially says, but we are definitely not sure if this was the best that it can handle. Remember that the SD865/865+ also supported QHD+ 144Hz last year? There's no way they didn't improve that a little bit this year, considering the performance is naturally better on this new SD888 as well.
Even I could prove it right now that Qualcomm isn't telling the true potential of their SoCs. My phone with a SD765G can only record videos up to 4K 30fps, but with the help of a ported GCAM, I can somehow manage to record 4K 60fps videos with digital stabilization as well. Though it is not a flawless capture, it does indeed record in such resolution and frame rate.
Most definitely this is also the same case for the SD888 in terms of the screen resolution and refresh rate that it supports.

Couldn't be more satisfied than what my 5 II does for me on all aspects.
Always room for improvement tho...
Sony should up their selfie camera this time around. And maybe polish PhotoPro up a bit. And release to sale much sooner ( anouncement in april and release in may/june looks good)
Thats all I can think of in regards of improvements over mark II series.
Seeing Xperia 1 II being most beloved phone on this site, just goes to say Sony is recognized for doing great things with their mobiles.
Now, if only more people start buying, to increase their well deserved marketshare space.
Step by step.

REDROBOT, 01 Apr 2021May Sony will modify socRight. I don't think there's really a lack of power to handle 4K 90Hz anyway; it just needs to be unlocked from the manufacturer itself.

Anonymous, 01 Apr 2021SD888 is just like 865/855/845/835/820/810/805. (weirdly ... moreSo it is indeed clear that there's no lack of power to support 4K 90Hz, rather it just lacks the official capability to do so. Then maybe Sony can start changing this by doing the first move with the 1 III.
We can compensate the higher power consumption of high refresh rate with a well-implemented dynamic refresh rate change. Idk how Samsung did it, but their new E4 AMOLEDs are doing wonders at saving power without sacrificing anything in return, and I think it is the way forward from now on.
Phones becoming more expensive every year is surely uncontrollable, however, that only means that phones that already have everything we'd need wouldn't cost so much like they did in the past. For instance, we can now get flagship level of performance in a $300 smartphone today, so if nobody needs the best of the best display, cameras, audio, etc, then there's no need to spend more than twice as much anymore. We can also attribute the current pandemic to this price hike, as it really did worsen the economy of the whole world.

Shanti Dope, 01 Apr 202110x Optical Zoom is surely one of, or maybe the S21 Ultra... moreI won't be surprised if the Xperia 1 III is about $1,300. Also, by the time it is released, it's most likely that you will be able to buy an S21 Ultra at $800. The Xperia 1 III may be released in July this year.

SpiritWolf, 01 Apr 2021Samsung J or whatever users certainly don't. Selected ... moreGood comparison between the cars and the phones. 100% agree with you👍 Sony move slowly but in the right direction avoiding mistakes Apple and Samsung makes nowadays by cutting here and there but still asking over $1000 USD for flagship phone with no charger in the box which cost no more then $10 or $20 maximum. Sony avoided this trend. Sony got many thing right for at least last 2 years. So I will buy Sony Xperia 1 iii (Sony is the BEST !!!).
