Anonymous, 01 Apr 2021By the way, where did you get the 4K at 90 Hz from? Is it a... moreIf I can remember it properly, Evan Blass from Twitter predicted that it would be 4K 90Hz. There's nothing sure about this yet, but it could happen if Sony will work with Qualcomm to enable such feature (just like how they managed the SD835 to handle the 960fps slow-mo video recording function of the IMX400 despite not being officially capable of doing it).

Anonymous, 01 Apr 2021You seem to purposely omit the fact that the S21 Ultra has ... more10x Optical Zoom is surely one of, or maybe the S21 Ultra's ultimate winning factor, but is it worth $100 more than a simple 3x optical zoom? I definitely don't think so.
Well, anyway, the Xperia 1 III is also rumored to have a periscope zoom lens. Magnification level is still unknown, but it could definitely happen with the renders that have leaked about this phone.
Outside the periscope lens, we definitely cannot disregard the practical side of things of the 1 III, such as the nifty microSD card slot and 3.5mm jack. The lack of a screen cutout is still an issue for many people, and that 21:9 aspect ratio is really something worthy for media consumption lovers. The 1 III can easily compete with the S21 Ultra just with these things. If anything, the Sony may actually have features that people prefer over the Samsung here, so it can really be a toss-up betwee the two.
Sure enough, the S21 Ultra would outshine it in terms of sales, but that's to be expected given Samsung's presence around the world, but the 1 III is definitely far from being incomparable to it; it just caters to audiences different from the normal consumers that Samsung and the others are targeting.

Nick Tegrataker, 01 Apr 2021(Continued) Another aspect of this phone that I'm hav... moreAccording to SumaHola (more or less trustable) there will be a main 64mp+ 12mp uw and a new lens for periscope zoom based on Cyber shoot cameras. 64mp cause the trend is to offer a bad implementation of 8k video to produce better PR campaigns and I think periscope goes from 24 to 100-120mm this time. With this configuration you can offer high numbers without losing 20fps and 60 ae/af.

I think they can nailed it without a 1cm thickness but let's see what happens in the mid April event.

Doom, 01 Apr 2021Launch: 14 April 2021 Availability: 14 October 2021It really depends on the region. Since like 2018, Sony only focuses only on a few regions. The new models arrive fairly quickly there.

5 series always comes with some improvements done during the development that later come to 1 with new android. Photos from 5 were better than 1 as well.
You can expect 5iii to do better than 1iii until android 12 can even the match.

Any phone more than $900 is very expensive. No matter the brand.
Unfortunately this is the reality. Newer and better components are more expensive and before they get any cheap, new ones are here already to take over. Many components are made just for few months.
People should instead of saying " brand A cant ask same price brand B asks because they sell less or they are not famous in Western World", should boycott products that every year lose features and give more support to those that keep.
1) Micro sd : obviously they are not as fast as internal memory, but they are very convenient. You can transfer files to new phone in seconds. While leaving stuff there while memory is left for apps.
2) jack : a nice wireless headset is surely better than cheap earphones that OEMs put in the box, but still not on pair with more expensive wired. You cant use on airplanes, it does not work while charging, there is some lag, can occur connections issues
3) glass is not just about making phone fancy, it is also harder to scratch and lose heat faster than plastic
4) accessories : Nature is just an excuse used to milk more money from us. The charger they do not spend $4 to make are being sold later for $20/$30/$40. Phones that do not have $150 profit per unit have charger/earphones in the box, while those that have $500/600/700 profit do not. Someone while ago posted on reddit photo of the samsung charger he bought for his new galaxy S. Charger is inside huge box ( as big as ipad pro box) and product takes no more than 30% of total space.

Xperia 5ii telephoto somehow a lot sharper than 1ii, so its not natural anymore according to your logic? - https://m.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_5_ii-review-2173p5.php
No, more likely 5ii use a different camera hardware on its telephoto, possibly not a 'fake zoom' as 1ii.

My S21 Ultra is nice but way too heavy. If the Xperia 1iii is lighter than mine, I'll switch. It'll be cool to use a phone different from the usual crowd.

For me, for example, gaming monitor with 60 hz refresh is more than ok even if i DO notice a SLIGHT difference. Never played online shooters, never will. So no, i really don't need more than 60hz which is perefectly OK.

TheLastOracle, 01 Apr 2021More than new phones, Sony needs to concentrate on pushing ... moreSony Electronics (where xperia is) has nothing to do with sensor development.
Sony Imaging and Semicon do it.
Much more advanced tech than Samsung and Omnivision.
Sony has many WRGB sensors, created the RGBE (50% of green is traded for cyan), created Quadbayer, created 3-layer stacked (DRAM in-chip). Sony was fisrt to get rid of issues seen on BSI sensors, 2x2 OCL as well.
All samsung does is to increase size and resolution. They even plan to bring 200, 300 and 600MP isocell for mobile. More marketing than tech.

Shui8, 01 Apr 2021Guess what? Xperia 1ii telephoto is actually a 20mp at 54mm... moreThe extra detail coming from Samsung is due to the intense image processing enhancement done on the image.
I'd take a soft but naturally rendered image over a heavily sharpened output from Samsung.

Anonymous, 01 Apr 2021The Xperia 1 III can't compare to the S21 Ultra. It... moreOr you can just rephrase it to thw Xperia flagships being totally different from the mainstream flagships like the Galaxy S series.
Just on the same level as the S21? Hmmm..... 1080p 120Hz or 4K 90Hz, that's quite a massive difference.
The Xperia 1 III will be Sony's top end flagship this year, and competes fairly closely to the Galaxy S21 Ultra while being cheaper too. It will be made out of glass and metal, just like the S21 Ultra. It will have a high resolution main sensor, just like the S21 Ultra. It will have a very high screen resolution just like, guess what? The S21 Ultra!
Sony phones are ovepriced? Uhmm, yes! Just like any other flagships that cost over $900. The definition of "overpriced" always depends on what a person needs, but at $1200 to $1400 price range, Sony is packing many more essential features than Samsung in their supposed "most complete package" phones of 2021.
Comparing the Xperia 1 III to the Galaxy S21+ just really makes it easier to recommend the Sony over Samsung. The Xperia 5 III will be competing with the S21 instead.
