Weekly poll: Sony Xperia Mark III tries something different, but is it worth the price of admission?

Looking at these three you get the feeling that Sony is ignoring market trends and is content to do its own thing - would you be part of it?

would recommend these to my friends, even the 10III which has wider range of colors with that 1B colors. and that it is uninterrupted by a notch or punched holes. a headphone jack.
as for myself, i am still thinking about 1III or 5III. it only defers on size anyway. wireless charging is a plus, but i dont usually use one. perhaps i have to when the resto where i jam over have wireless charger on their desks, or at the office.

    If the 5 was truly compact and not the size of a S21 I could consider paying the premium. As is,there isn't so much to differentiate it enough for the price premium

      Apart from the price, which is way too high for a product with such a short lifespan, these phones tick all the right boxes for me.

      I'm seriously considering going for the 1 Mk III (coming from a Mi 9T Pro)!

        Sony clearly explained plenty of times that the reason they stick to 12 MP is for SPEED.
        You can't do 20fps AE/AF with any other smartphone lol.

          Except in zoom, Xperia is on par with any other flagships in terms of quality/details.
          Colours are even more better on Xperia than any other brand. Only pixel comes close to Xperia that too after post processing.

            I'd settle for a phone that can actually make phone calls - the I ii frequently refuses to do that, even after a restart!

              These prices and knowing Sony's after-sales support (which doesn't really exist here), this year is no different from earlier years: skip the devices completely and you're good to go. :)

                wongwatt, 19 Apr 2021Except those cropped photos are not awful when your phone h... more16/9 and 21/9 have often a bad composition, period. Only some landscape will ask for 16/9. Go to a photo exhibition, you will not find 21/9 and very rarely 16/9 photographies.
                People just have OCD because they watch a photo on screen with bad aspect ratio for photo and can't support black space. But then you can always crop after-ward if you want to create a wallpaper. But if the main purpose is to make photo for multi support, 4/3 is almost always the way to go.
                The only thing I want to point out is that 21/9 and 16/9 ARE cropped photo, so it's always possible to do it afterwards will keeping the original for further cropping if, say, you change your phone in 2 years with a new aspect ratio.

                      People be talking shit about Sony,but none will talk about Apple..Sony phones are cool,they are not buggy as people say.. I've been using sony phones.. most of you are just haters who've never used a sony phone...their camera is just perfect..my friends with apple prefer using my sony..

                          The Pro apps are a crutch that allows Sony to put dated (and cheap) sensors on a £1000+ flagship.
                          It's not good enough IMHO.
                          But life is about choices, I'm not here to criticise people for buying Sony phones. I bought an Xperia 1 ii with my own money and found it disappointing in both performance and stability. I've listed the bugs elsewhere on here so I won't repeat them, needless to say I've stopped using it because there's nothing compelling enough to make me overlook the bugs. I'm actually happier using my non-google Huawei and GSpace because it always works and has a simply brilliant camera array. The few issues associated with GSpace are much easier to overlook as soon as I start taking photos, I've never taken better pics.

                                The default app, which is on the home screen and lock screen when you first turn on the phone, should produce photos comparable to other flagships. The "Pro" apps should be better, if Sony were using their very best sensors it could be, instead they hide behind their "intended audience" argument.
                                Apparently that audience also doesn't mind shoestopping bugs either.
