Weekly poll: Sony Xperia Mark III tries something different, but is it worth the price of admission?

18 April 2021
Looking at these three you get the feeling that Sony is ignoring market trends and is content to do its own thing - would you be part of it?

Just too damn many downsides. The major disappointment came from less expected thing - camera quality. Thankfully I was able to re-sell it relatively quickly (some poor bugger bought it just from curiosity, feel sorry for him). So sorry Sony, never again! Unless the price will be around $500. Seriously, Sony flagship phones just don't worth a dollar more.

Omni balance design is bad for usability. The power button position is too low.

Terrible phones with extremely outdated cameras, there is no reason to get Sony phones, unless for some reason you need 4k screen on phone(which you definitely don't), 3.5mm jack. Well if you willing to pay 1000 euro for jack might better forget about it at all.

I'm still getting the Xperia over it though.

1 II was made around PhotoPro and CinemaPro, so dxo stance on just the usual camera app testing( or was that even testing? through 5 mere example shots?) , not even touching into those Pro apps, is right down embarrasing for them.

Jase PM, 18 Apr 2021ASUS ROG 5 is a better package. I'll stick with that How?? No 4K display, no 20fps burst, no headphones jack and probably their camera is also bad like last year.

Will Sony announced the Sony Xperia L5, the successor of the Xperia L4 for this year?

sohail shafayat, 18 Apr 2021I know that high mp don't equate to better images, but... moreSony made it clear that point of sticking to 12MP is faster read outs from sensor so that they can achieve 20fps burst with AF/AE.

It's all matter of priorities. It's obvious Sony's priorities are different from other brands. Probably in future once processors are fast enough to read out higher MP to do 20fps may be Sony also switches up. Just like how they sticked to 4K 60Hz until SD888.

I have $750. X1III/X5III is too expensive and X10III is too bad.
+ unremappable (officially) google assistant button (instead of google camera) is an abomination

It's not worth it, but it's much more worth it than any of the other phones at this price point.

This is the most NON yawn phone released in a long time. Love the looks and specs and design, Sony at least goes to show you can still make a phone that stands out from the crowd. The price is no more expensive than any other flagship out there (they are ALL too expensive) and it's great that they are unapologetically not following the crowd. Really hope Sony stay in the game and don't end up like LG who paid the price for trying to be a bit different sadly.

Kriegsherr, 18 Apr 2021I partially agree with your comment. Apple and Samsung has ... moreOnce Phones were gadgets to be useful, the more feature, the merrier.

There is a fact that cannot be ignored by any measure, "Resale Value"

When a person wants to spend more than a grand for anything, there must be logic behind it.

Being fan is good for the manufacturer and the brand holder. It also is good for collectors.

Xperia Pro 25 hundred price tag was focused for being Camera monitor and they called it professional use = professional price tag.

1 III has the feature with half the price and not just for professionals!

                                  Where is the point?

What happened to those 25 hundreds?

Smartphones are neither assistants nor gadgets anymore. They are tools to run apps. Once we called them computer in general.

I paid 13 hundred to buy 1 III, in any case there is no logic to lose half the price to change with the latest model in next announcements.

                                  This is the point.

Value for the money is a journalistic Joke.

Galaxy A70 has everything a user needs, from battery life to camera quality (except 5G).
When you want to change it with A71, A72, etc. you know that new phone means, new tech, because it passes one year toward the next.

Some says I have such phone for 10 years, the reason is that your need is limited to availability of an app in your platform.

Manufacturers Such as Samsung and Apple are not consumer friendly, but the availability market makes them customer friendly.

Buy Galaxy S / Note and iPhone in many markets around the world and after a year sell it with 10 to 20 percent lower price.

Now you can have a brand new phone with 80-90% of its retail price with everything you've had inside the old one.

Other brands in general from this aspect which is directly related to your income suffer from 50 to 70 percent lost.

                                  In comparison, you pay 1500 for Apple or Samsung in 2021, you also pay 1300 for Sony or OnePlus in the same year;

Next year, new tech, new trend, new needs:

You pay 300 for Apple or Samsung
You pay 650 for Sony or OnePlus

                                  In 2023
Your iPhone, Galaxy + 300 (regarding higher price tag)
Your Xperia, OP11 + 800 (regarding higher price tag)

For this miscalculation and brandism, fanboys pay the whole price, others keep the phone for 3 to 4 years.
few remaining will keep until the gadget becomes totally retired.

12 X 50 = must be your next brand new phone for next year.
12 X ??? = you fool yourself by quotes, "I keep" "No need to change" "This trend is idiotic" "I want to invest in other way" "They waste money every year" "There are more important things to pay" "It works perfectly" "I love it like my child" "It is my pet" "Faithful assistant" "Handy" etc.

Calculate your income, Control your pocket, and use more financial logic,
then you can decide WHICH CATEGORY is your pocket friendly, then stay on that category and show the manufacturers that they themselves are insane, not you.

And they used to offer way better sound that almost all phones those days... Nokias were mostly mono audio those days.
Then N91 came and stole the show, but it had its own demerits.

Yes, easier for them now to reclaim mobile music world.
They're in the right direction, they just need to get the features/ offering mix right.
