Weekly poll: Sony Xperia Mark III tries something different, but is it worth the price of admission?

18 April 2021
Looking at these three you get the feeling that Sony is ignoring market trends and is content to do its own thing - would you be part of it?

But i think $1300 or 1300€ is too much for a phone. flagship phone price shouldn't top a grand anyway.

PS: now some ultra rich would come and tag me a poor person (or out of my league) as I don't wanna spend that much for a phone.

trustevil, 18 Apr 2021In a previous comment I mentioned in a different xperiaIII ... moreI know that high mp don't equate to better images, but I need larger images and it's not like that larger images can't be better. Xperia || images are not that spectacular also. we have seen better 27MP images on Xiaomi, Mi 11 Ultra's 50MP images are even better, Huawei Mate 40 Pro+'s 50MP images are outstanding and all of them are better than Xperia ||'s 12MP images.

Whackcar, 18 Apr 2021It has everything it needs to have. Looks like a solid phon... morethe only thing prohibiting it to be a hit is the price. at $1300 which is a lot and eventually it would cost ~1300€ in europe would make it impractical for a lot who can still afford it. Sony makes great phones, need some pricing strategy and some deal with carriers.

if they try making 21:9 less longer then the screen will be too narrow, for example Sony Xperia 10 III is 140mm tall and 60mm wide, 60mm is useless for me. it's narrower than a 5" 16:9 screen, it's aroud a 4.8" 16:9 screen.

            perfect, beautiful.

It has everything it needs to have. Looks like a solid phone all around. Don't know about sales numbers, but I think it's gonna satisfy it's buyers.

Looks great and promising... YES it's expensive but for what it offers is much better than iphone or samsung specially for it's base storage @256GB unlike the latters! I also wished if they put like 50MP sensor for better zoom and crop because this is what I mostly focus on in a camera! I liek to take close-up shots (macro-like) and crop them without loosing quality (specially when working on a RAW file) I hope mark II gets cheaper so it will be handy for all consumers who wish to buy

Moreover I don't see any complaints about galaxy S21 ultra being long.

While I'm afraid of that battery life, I am getting the 1 Mark iii. Until there's another flagship with front-facing stereo speakers, microSD card slot, headphone jack, and US networks, nothing this year tops this.

Also, people need to stop the stupid argument of "Sony isn't Apple or Samsung to charge high". As if the iPhones and Galaxy flagships are worth their pice with the insane amount of missing features. 3-5 Years of Is Updates doesn't make up the fact that they're missing a lot of key features that people like myself still uses (let alone, it's more OPTIONS for the consumer). I'm sick of it.

The last honest flagship maker. There is less and less competition, and companies like Samsung are racing to the bottom to see what they can take away. I sincerely hope Sony finds success with these.

Honestly what Sony needs to, is stop thinking that using their real sensors will kill the camera line. They do have a wonderful 1" sensor that killed "small sensors" point and shooters, remaining only their rx 10/100 line (and canon g*x, who decided to copy them). People who want a compact camera does because cameras still can be a bit larger, having better lenses and more flexibility than phones.

Yes, cameras nowadays are what people looks for in a newer phone. For the rest, flagships already got it. 1080p resolution is not a major downfall neither adaptive refresh rates (or even keeping at 60hz) is a big thing. Sony would have no problems making a mark 4 flagship identical to the current one, while changing the camera.

Anders, 18 Apr 2021Great that it's got a headphone jack and micro SD but ... moreIf you trust the promotional Dxo , with a year later and casual overall entire 5 photos from just the 1 II's obsolete main android camera app analysis, then yes.

Dont get it how people can trust that site. Its so obvious and in your face.

Real photographers and cinematographers have a quite opposite opinion, as they tested the actual PhotoPro and CinemaPro app.

Your own videos are not shot in 8K or available to be watched on 8K, so why hype a feature you yourself don't utilise. 4K has just matured; 8K will take time. Don't hype up useless features.
