WhatsApp to become increasingly less useful if you don't accept its new terms

I use neither telegram or whatsapp. I don't like that both apps require phone numbers to register an account. They don't even give you the option to sign up using email.

Soon the nature of the internet is going to turn into something that only computer science majors will understand. I already have a hard time understanding object-oriented programming and whatnot, let alone what a "blockchain" is.

Govt of India should intervene and make this Whatsapp pay. We know how FB just keep selling user data to third party to get richer.

No doubt it is an unwelcome move. Also myself switching to other alternative apps doesn't guarantee that all my WhatsApp contacts sies the same. In a fix here!
But again, do we have the right to demand anything when we are using any service(not limited to WhatsApp/Facebook or any other service) for free? Free users are always at the mercy of policies set by organizations. Almost all the websites/social media sites have been passing on customer data to advertisers since almost the beginning - its an open secret!
What WhatsApp could have done here is - they should have created two segments. One segment should have consist of free users and the other being paid user. The paid users should have been allowed to use their service as before.

Indian , 08 May 2021I hope whatsapp will not make a chance to loose its users o... moreThere is nothing to rethink. WhatsApp is Facebook and Facebook is an aggressive corporation that looks to harm you. You either accept their newly minted terms or they cause irreparable damage to your social life. You can't even go back to using it in legacy mode. You gave part of your life to Facebook and now it belongs to it.
In the age of web 3.0 (blockchain based solutions), web 2.0 applications are such an anachronism. I am thankful for companies like Facebook. Yes they are (and act like) relics of the tyrannical past, however they also push for a faster adoption of web 3.0 which will fast leave them and their creepiness behind.

I will always prefer to use Telegram over WhatsApp. Sure that Signal is still the best when it comes to privacy, but it's not a true WhatsApp replacement. Telegram has just about every essential feature that WhatsApp has, and that is a win for me. It's just that my family and friends are totally heavily relying on WhatsApp, which made me forced to go back to Android when WhatsApp dropped its official support for Windows Phone in 2020.

Anonymous, 08 May 2021Google and Apple spy on us a zillion times more. Why aren... moreMaybe that's because Facebook's data often gets hacked or leaked. Which doesn't happen with Google or apple. In my opinion , most people are not concerned that big tech companies have their information , they are concerned that it will eventually fall into the wrong hands , which often happens when there's a date leak

Just start using telegram, the app has literally the same functionality without being bound to facebook, easy solution. I will carefully read their terms and if they do not look good I'm not going to use whatsapp in the future
