Snapdragon 888+ emerges on Geekbench, Cortex-X1 core clocks in at 3Ghz

28 May 2021
It's about time we see an overclocked version of Qualcomm's flagship SoC.

If Qualcomm can give a better thermal performance for the 888+, it can definitely be the chipset to have.

Anonymous, 29 May 2021Yes. Mi11 Ultra, S21 Ultra, X60 Pro+, X3 Pro, 9 Pro, Ro... moreThe whole burnt motherboard story is most likely fake. All SoCs have an internal mechanism that throttles the performance automatically at a certain temperature threshold, and those used in mobile phones (whose threshold value is set relatively low compared to laptop/desktop CPU/GPU) just cannot get hot to the level that it fries the motherboard. Use your common sense and you will immediately know it simply wouldn't happen no matter what you do on your phone.

The original source article on the Chinese website no longer exists (or has it ever?) and there is not a single picture evidencing that those incidents even occurred in the first place - case closed.

They should have chosen tsmc over samsung.

Overclocking an overheating processor isn't going to end well. I think this 888+ will end up like 865+ and not make its way into many phones.

Anonymous, 29 May 2021Dude Gary whoever is not my neighbor and I actually had 12 ... moreI also have one and no, I don’t experience much thermal throttling except for just a small handful of demanding games (mostly poorly optimised). My iPhone 11 I sold was the phone having the throttling issue, already with a 828p screen, runs like a toaster at times and looked like the heat couldn’t dissipate quickly enough. iOS 14.6 also have a software problem. Lot smoother than my outgoing S20 FE 5G

Scores are same as the 888😑

Would be nice if phone makers allowed users to control actual chipset performance. So you can limit it to some reasonable level to keep power consumption and heat in check and allow it unrestricted when you know battery level won't be an issue. Currently most vendors only allow power saving in terms of turning off WiFi and BT and whatnot. But haven't seen anyone actually control chipset itself. I have seen it in custom ROM's, but those are usually pretty trash.

Snapdragon forever. High price? OK. But you get faster updates and stability.

Are they ever going to upgrade the A55 in a meaningful way? Or just keep rehashing the same chip with some nominal updates once every three years with token updates once every 6 months while jacking up the prices?

This company got the stench of 2015-Intel...need someone to rock the boat on the android end and break this monopoly.

Bring on the 895 (or whatever the non plus/+ model 888 successor will be called).

At this point of time, I am only interested in

                                  1. More energy efficient cpu/gpu.
                                  2. Value for money specs.
                                  And
                                  3. Oled with 90 hz refresh rate.

                                  That's all I need.
