It will be interesting to see how many developers will start working on developing Harmony apps (not ported Android apps) in the coming several years. I'm pretty sure the whole transition process will go fairly smoothly, though.. many app developers in China as well as current Android OEMs seem to be interested in this OS.

The benchmark of this title is misguided. The pure version of Harmony OS, Open Harmony 2.0, cannot run Android apps, while the version of Harmony OS on phones and tablets can run both native apps and Android apps. The strategy is to build up the new ecosystem while relying on Android ecosystem for consumer base until the new ecosystem overtake the old with its superior capabilities. The benchmark should be native Harmony OS apps, which is now only a handful.

Vasra, 11 Jun 2021It does NOT matter, if Huawei can't get chips.
USA ... moreEverybody would love to fab chips for Huawei. It's not that they don't 'want to'. It's hard cash.
The problem is that US sanctions prohibit the use of US technology in products made for Huawei unless there is a licence (from the US) that permits it. As you can probably imagine this after-the-fact politically motivated, extraterritorial action is causing US and non US companies to lose billions in revenues from the likes of Huawei. They are NOT happy about having decisions made for them by non sovereign states and will move away from US tech dependence as a result. China is working to provide an alternative but it will take time but not nearly as long as it would have taken before the sanctions were imposed. Trump shot himself in the head on that one by cutting off billions of dollars in Huawei revenues to the US semi conductor industry, starving them of much needed resources to plough back into R&D for future technologies. That money is now going to competitors outside the US. The Pentagon actually blocked the Trump move for a while on national security grounds. That's so ironic. US semi conductor bodies representing over 1,000 US semi conductor companies wrote directly to Trump warning him about the consequences of his actions.
ASML has been under extraterritorial political pressure not to supply China with its technology and looks likely to resume business with China.
Samsung may well be working with HiSilicon to produce a 3nm Kirin chipset (free of US technology) as early as next year. We will see.
The US has been caught trying to act as a gatekeeper to technology and the restnof the world is in disbelief and looking to reduce dependcies on US technology in general. Just look at the EU's processor initiative.
IoT devices do not require advanced processes and can be produced without Huawei's intervention although Huawei sells IoT chipsets on the open market, too. HarmonyOS will work with those chipsets.
Midea (one of the largest appliance manufacturers on the planet) is rumoured to have committed to shopping almost all of its products with HarmonyOS.
It's rolling out on cars too. Tvs, watches, routers etc.
And this is only the beginning.
HMS is going from strength to strength.

Every damn thread where Huawei is mentioned, you are there blabbering about "HoS is Android". I can bet that you are NO developer, nor you have any knowledge about that subject. And I can bet that your only source that "Hos is Android" comes from that AssTechnica article, since there is no other proof for that.

At this point China is on its own and they knew this time will come, the thing is they didn't expect it so early. Why do you think China is pressing to take over Taiwan as they did over Hong Kong?
TSMC si a gold mine if they can control it, they will control more 50% of chip fabbing in the world.
But western countries will not allow the take over and the intention might become a reason for war in the future...
