iOS finally gets official Picture-in-Picture support for YouTube, rolling out globally

18 June 2021
iOS 14 brought the ability for picture-in-picture with apps, but its not until recently that Google enabled it on the YouTube app.

Hello Life, 19 Jun 2021seriously I am frustrated with android ... if only iphones ... moreYou could probably invest a weekend & put a custom ROM on it, heck even the SII has an unofficial Android 11 ROM working (though somewhat poorly given it's age).

Hello Life, 19 Jun 2021seriously I am frustrated with android ... if only iphones ... moreIt's not because there are performance issues, it's just that they aren't interested in giving you Android 11 when they can just sell you a new phone that comes with Android 11. Then give you Android 12 "for free" and for Android 13 you'll probably have to look for a new phone again. It's why I despise Android phones. Because of how they are maintained, not because Android itself is bad.

I hate it being a US exclusive, outside of the US I cannot use PiP neither in Android nor in iOS. I already watch your ads Google, just give me PiP on my devices!!!

Hello Life, 19 Jun 2021seriously I am frustrated with android ... if only iphones ... morecustom roms are a thing you know...
my galaxy s3 is running oreo lineage os stable and someone even made Android 11 port already

not that i suggest using an s3 today (it's a backup phone) but last i checked even S7 has oneUI 2.5 Android 10 rom

and Android updates usually don't bring much since it's feature packed anyways, current phone is still oreo and no lack of app support or anything (whereas older ios versions like 10 and 11 are a different story) (heck even lollipop and marshmallow is still supported by most apps, even covid tracing and banking apps) and i still have pip and background/screen off play with YouTube vanced with oreo so

Reading the comments here, it’s amazing how much of a mental block people put up to not acknowledge that Google is the developer for Youtube.

New phones with 2gb ram are launching with android 11.

Can’t these Android users understand that these companies screw their users over and over again only because Android vendors don’t want you to keep same phone for long time. They could easily update their phones with newer OS but it would just mean them selling less phones. They don’t have ecosystem to make money from current users so they have to sell you new phone unlike Apple who prints money no matter if you upgrade or keep your current phone.

Average upgrade cycle is getting longer and longer, longer OS support is more important every year because phones and tablets are so good already, for most people there’s no real reason to upgrade anymore. Average upgrade cycle is nowdays 3-4 years.

”But for the other people, who change their phones more frequently, iPhones are not as good as Android phones, because of the higher prices.”

Disagree with this too, if you want to upgrade yearly iPhone is best choice because of the resell price staying so high. Just like you said second hand 11 Pro Max is really expensive. You don’t need to pay much to buy new model every year if you sell the old one.

But for the other people, who change their phones more frequently, iPhones are not as good as Android phones, because of the higher prices. And the lower iPhone models are not that appealing (I had some and I wasn't very impressed; I mean there are ok don't get me wrong, but still too expensive imo, something like iPhone SE2, 12 mini or XR). I mean, I wouldn't recommend anything below 11 Pro Max or 12 Pro Max from Apple now. And those phones are very expensive (even the 11 Pro Max at second hand, cost as much as a brand new Galaxy S21+ in my country).
Not to mention, something like Poco F3 or Realme GT (who have flagship performances at 300-400EUR). True, after 1 year those phones are bye bye, but who cares. You will just get the next one. Lol.

Anonymous, 19 Jun 2021Longer software support lol. Those ppl don't know how ... moreAnd yet "scam" iPhones get 5+ years of updates. 5 full iOS updates and generally extra 2 years of security updates. Show me a single Android device that got even 5 years of anything. There just aren't any. Best yet is Samsung with 3+1. And that's like peak offering. All the "but muh updates through GooglePlay" can or can as well not deliver any security updates. You just have to hope and trust you actually do. No wonder Android phone vendors just can't bother to do better when you people are so furiously defending their garbage business practices with pathetic support. Part of which is their fault because they churn out hundreds of new phone models every year and no one can properly support any of that through software.

Apart from a few features I don't find the reason why so many people get crazy about the Android.
