Rumor: Xiaomi is working on a phone with a 192MP camera with 16-in-1 binning support

29 June 2021
This high resolution sensor should offer high quality digital zoom up to 4x. And it will have the S888 successor to do the number crunching.

You pay highly, and therefore you should have something to say! Do you even know how much the phone actually costs, against the price it's sold for? I guess not. And yet again, why fill it with useless gimmicks, when it's better without?

Oh, because people like you. Who just accept everything as it is. But since you do that, why even comment?

But let me ask you this... Are we all professional photographers? The general public is interested in a consumer based product, not a professional based.

Most people these days don't want to carry around a bulky Dslr everywhere.
Professionals are and content creators are a different category of people. Kindly don't bring them on this platform.

Smartphones have better video unless you count the really high end dslrs.

Images in manual mode will give Dslr the edge.
In Auto mode, Dslr gets destroyed. Plenty of other benefits simply not possible on Dslr

You don't understand one simple fact- when they give a feature, they're not forcing you to use it! When they take it away, they're forcing their opinion.

They give a card slot, you can choose to keep it empty, to not use it, its not damaging you in any way.
They give you 3.5mm jack, you can still choose to use USB-C and Bluetooth both, if your twisted mind says its better somehow.
They give you removable battery, you can still choose to keep it sealed inside the device.
They give you FM Radio with recording, be my guest and put the app in some folder and never use it or disable it.

They give you any feature, you have a choice to not use it, instead of misusing internet to badmouth companies and forcing them to remove it, ultimately destroying future devices for us.
Talk only when necessary- Speech is silver and silence is golden. Learnt this in school, and so rightly.

Given your recent responses, I'm guessing you're still quite young. But, if you have half the maturity to understand my post, never degrade a useful thing, because then its removed for everyone, and we all suffer. Please.

Even Samsung's 108MP sensor still output 12MP under Nona Bayer pixel binning, so it doesn't really make any difference from a native 12MP camera sensor with the same effective pixel size as the 108MP sensor. The only reason why you would want a triple-digit camera sensor is that you want 8K or higher video recording. That is where you really do need a big MP camera sensor.

Anonymous, 29 Jun 2021Pixel size does not matter. It is a myth. A 100MP photo... more"A 100MP photo downscaled to 12 is gonna still be better than 12MP, if cameras use same sensor size."

Actually no, it doesn't. You only downscale the resolution, the pixel size and the grain will remain the same. With pixel binning or oversampling, it will increase the pixel size and eliminate the grain.

Anonymous, 29 Jun 2021Pixel actually fails half the time as soon as you get it ou... moreOh please! Pixel phones are NOT 'known' to change the texture patterns, if anything it is the amount of noise caused by a small sensor that had been plaguing their camera until Pixel 4. Now it has been largely resolved on Pixel 5 thanks to the new HDR+ algorithms and the upcoming Pixel 6 will come with a bigger sensor to further improve the performance. If the new sensor turns out to be anything larger than 1/1.5" it will be an immediate game over for all phones that do not have a 1/1.33" sensor or above.

Historically speaking Xperia turns low contrast details into a mush and blurs out fine textures in low light, and once it gets out of its comfort zone such as fast moving objects in a close distance, it struggles a ton mainly from exposure inconsistency. Pixel rarely fails in real life situations, Xperia forces you to use manual mode for good photos or spits out mediocre looking shots every so often.
