Dometalican, 12 Jul 2021Starting from scratch in the middle of a chipset outage is ... moreIt is more than clearly one of the aspects implied by the author. You can't charge that much for so little and outdated of something.
And they didn't have to scratch it altogether. But at least make it cheaper and evolve it. They could have figured numerous different ways to use parts, make limited models, etc. But they chose this.
And the supply shortage sure didn't seem to effect others nearly as bad. Why is it everyone else got their phones out just fine... yet one of the largest tech companies that had the device in development much longer couldn't make it????

Because the phone uses mmWave 5g, which needs line of sight with the towers.

And as far as 5g goes why was it having shoddy performance in 5g compared to other devices of it the plastic frame and back make that better, it's supposed to have more and better 5g antennas, and that's the whole point of its over priced specific use?

Dropping the price? Sure but that's not what the author was suggesting.

Anonymous, 12 Jul 2021XZ3 with LG screen had higher sunlight score than samsung ... moreFirst of all those were not the screens in question.
Screens of s5-s7 and z3 were brought up.
So bringing up a random screen out of nowhere proves the value is not the point. Just that you are defending Sony with any lie possible.

Secondly...check again. The s9 still had a higher sunlight legibility score.

Thirdly still only goes to show that Sony consistently falls behind in screen one way or another.

How does selling an outdated and underwhelming device at 2500 seem like the better option? They are lucky people bought it at all.
Again. The excuses of why it happened don't excuse that it did happen. The author made a factual point.

In order to bring the Pro with the 1 III specs, they'd have to start AGAIN from scratch with certifications, redoing the motherboards to support the smaller chipset, bigger battery and updated periscope cams, and telling the FCC that the phone is ready for sale.

Did they release this a little late (especially in Europe)? Absolutely. But to claim Sony should have updated the specs to match the 1 III to a phone that was certified last year is absolutely ignorant and not thinking of the difficulties of doing that rather than work on an Xperia Pro Mark ii next year with better than 1 III specs hopefully.

                      Your move.

And despite that s5 could only achieve 500 something manual or over 600 auto it so had a far more visible display in sunlight.
Not to mention the same with the s6 that came out months later.
Not to mention the z3 still being a timeframe where Sony still suffered for sudden motherboard failures and self cracking screens. Which caused the touch to go out from the tiniest of cracks.
Or the fact that the s5 and note 4 then before the s6 had far better audio, camera, and interface compared to the Z3.
I have my z3 and ultra still. Nice phones but nothing compared the s5 or note 4. Let alone nothing that brings anything related to this situation....unless to describe how Sony is still failing.

And the s21 Ultra can achieves a dramatically higher peak brightness while maintaining full 3k res and 120hz.

It took a while to convince Red and Black to get video camera features and codec. They were designed for cinema work, not for quick turn around video work. Now, they are significantly better, but still need extra work on eng camcorder use. They are not listening, and many people don't find it much of an issue. So, yes, worry looking at a BMD pocket 4k, or apple mini phone with filmic pro, or other, instead of this. With filmic it's really a hit or miss with features support being enabled on Android phones, but certain phones, like Google pixel, are know for good support of camera API features which filmic can take advantage of.

Anyway, I'm saying use an extra USB instead of HDMI. It's more compact and durable, and you can record directly to ssd, and ditch the BM video assist. A cabled dongle can be more compact and secure, and get the HDMI portion our the road. It seems counter intuitive, but HDMI plugs St cling out has been a pain in the ass. They should develop a single optical (HDMI) optical strand standard to connect these things.

I don't remember putting the 4:4:4 comment in, but obviously it wasn't meant to be there. The 4th Starwars film, there. Anyway. Superior colour handling with 4:4:4, and is more compressible, so not overwhelmingly bigger than 4:2:2. Actual 12bit+, 50fps+, 8k, 4:4:4, are all more compressible. There was a company years ago claiming double the compression rate for lossless, but they were using special selected examples with 4:4:4 etc, to get there. Goes the same for descent higher compression rates. Dont sweat it.

All it is doing is sustaining itself, unlike Nokia or LG, until a bigger revolution hits the market. Who knows, Sony would already be pumping resources into R&D...
