You don't need to operate the cortex X1 core at 3ghz all the times to run any real world app.
It can run well at 2ghz or 2.5ghz or lower without any issues.
If an app can actually take advantage of that without consuming excessive power, they are allowed to. Most apps on smartphones rarely use that kind of power.
OnePlus has done nothing wrong here.
All they did was manage the power hungry Snapdragon 888 well, nothing else.
They haven't underclocked the cpu by default like Samsung did on the S21 Ultra.

I'm sure there are tweaks to the ECU for vehicles to provide better gas mileage. Even tweaks to electric vehicles to provide the best range. They aren't disclosing all their tweaks, and nobody is really asking them for those tweaks. Just know your current car is not running at full capabilities. That's a given.

This is obviously all for battery life. It's nearly the only reason you would throttle performance other than to keep from overheating. And guess what? Overheating throttling is still happening. And the screen refresh rate being throttled back to 1Hz is also happening. There's tons of "optimizations" being made to these phones by a lot of manufacturers to give the user the best experience. In this case, battery life while maintaining great performance. You can debate if this is still maintaining great performance, which is fine. But don't try and pretend that there's another motive here, lol.

If that mechanic gets caught, he starts to claim that he was just trying to make sure your car lasts longer. Will anybody accept such tampering? I know.... I won't.
Apple knew their A series processor are good enough to run the lightweight iOS for a few more years. So they purposely slowed them down and decided to hide behind the narrative of "preserving battery health in long term" even though battery replacements are super cheap and Apple users can certainly afford them.

Battery, gaming, heavy tasks etc. Its the best phone ive ever used. Obviously camera is not so good but thats software side of things. Ive used xperia phones, samsung, nexus 2013 model and HTC 10.. Maybe the fan boys are used to the usual awesome performance. I got one of the last 12gb ram versions on my carrier in the uk. Obviously im interested in the OP9 if anything ever happens to the OP8 but the SD888 isnt looking so cool. Lets hope my phone lasts till the OP10 comes out.

The ROG 3 with Snapdragon 865 was beating the sh¡t out of A14 last year in speed tests. It used to score half in GeekBench

The operating system knows best when to utilize what.
With your logic, we'd empty our battery in no time because of your obsession to use big cores everytime. Then people like you again complain about terrible battery life.

Admittedly it was a flawed chipset but they did a great job of keeping it cool. The battery was still going up until the phone got dropped out of a window when trying to take a pic.

Whats real life usage compared to oneplus 8? I know battery is not as good probably due to the SD888 but really interested in gaming performance.. How long can you play cod mobile before battery dies? Does the camera usage heat up the device?
Can't believe this chipset has been overclocked on the plus version with it heating up all but the best gaming specific phones.
