No, they don't do studies anymore, BECAUSE, of people like you.
That's why despite being hated and completely useless, 2Mp sensor plague are still a thing despite the ridiculously low cost of much better 12Mp sensors available in huge quantities.

Shui8, 09 Jul 2021Why u want to see the link when u know its only by my words... moreBecause you say that as if it was a thing.
Slim phones are just trending, there is nothing special to them.
The smartphone market is literally the perfect example of what NOT to do:

      *Basically no smaller phones.
      *Almost only too slim phones.
      *Crappy camera setups everywhere.
*2Mp useless macro + depth combo plague.
      *Holes/dents in the display.
*Curves on the edges, said curves in the wrong side (there is a reason why curved TV/Monitors aren't curved in this direction).
*Ditching of great features/designs that are beloved by many.
*Removal of an actively used standard (3.5mm Jack).
*The only big OS that require OEMs to make a custom OS PER PRODUCTS when every other's use drivers (or matching hardware/OS direct addressing for Apples), and based on a system (Linux) that itself doesn't require such things thanks to drivers.
*Rebranding phones making basically another exact same model on the market, while not properly re-using components and frame for other models, meaning that there aren't any variations and every new model even looking really close to its predecessor/brother from another price range require its own dedicated R&D.

I could write a book sized post about all those anomalies, many of which only the smartphone market has.

It isn't about advises anymore, EVERYONE knows the smartphone market is messed up.
In part, because when someone asks for something, give an idea, or anything that isn't the norm or the trend, the smartphone community HAS to put it down, regardless if it is the best idea of the history of mankind, a regular idea or the worst one, it will in any cases be put down as if it was a threat for those who are against it, as if they would lose all the phones they like because of that.
And the crazy part is that it happen when something is asked for FEW models that people act like that, yet, ironically, they arrogantly will also act "aggressively/negatively" to anyone (or what they said) who dare to criticize something that is above trending (flooding the market) as if it was a rare and precious thing that will be gone if someone look it wrong.

This is LITERALLY what happen EVERYTIME I defend a rare tech or point out the flaws of one which flood so much the market that it leave no room for alternatives, regardless how I say it.
This is the reason why OEMs have stopped caring about what we want and rather throw the first easiest thing they deem could in a way or another be trending or is already done by everyone else.

Seriously, people, what is wrong with you?

By the way, Google doesn't care how many Pixel phones are sold. The hardcore fans will buy them, most won't. Most people on the streets will continue to use Samsung phones, cheaper Chinese phones, and iPhones.

A Pixel phone is more like a 'science project' for Google, to showcase what it can do in-house.

Google primarily earns its money through selling advertising.

There are many people having a job as a physical labourer, sure. But then do you know how many of them actually WISH to use a 12mm thick 270g (or could be even more if you literally fill an extra space with a battery cell) phone with an over 6.5 inch display when they are already straining their arms/hands hard enough in their jobs? Because you know, "There *must be* enough number of people who want this" is a very weak argument without supporting statistics behind it.

"as long as people constantly have to try to put it down because, they, themselves don't want/can't use it, without caring that other can/want, it won't have much success because of the negativity surrounding it"
Ok, so essentially "No Matter How I Look at It, It's You Guys' Fault My Idea Is Not Popular".. huh, I wonder if this part is supposed to be against me.

That camera bump looks... awful. 5 years of updates looks better.

Mobilemaster, 09 Jul 2021I am glad they choose a 48 MP periscope camera, and not an ... moreIt is because space limitation.

                  S20 periscope = 4x with 1/2" sensor.
                  Mi 11U = 5x with 1/2".

                  S21U = 10x with 1/3.2" sensor
                  Huawei = 10x with 1/3.6" sensor

As they extend focal length, they reduce sensor size to keep whole system small.
This is why some phones with 76-82mm (without periscope) use those 8MP 1/4".

Zoom cameras use even more space.
So, expect next year to see smaller sensors.
Since you need to have moving parts inside the periscope box.

One SURE thing, ergonomic things are usually NOT flat, that's why a remote control, a mouse, a handle, and basically anything else I can think about, even things you'd hold the same way as a phone, are ALMOST ALL thicker than 9mm regardless of their size.

12mm is the average thickness of a human finger, don't tell me that a finger is too thick for you to handle...

Regardless, I've never said that all phones should be that thickness anyway, you already have your slim phones, now lets those who prefer thicker phones have their own.
What's the point of trying to fight such demand?

                          S20 Ultra and Mi11U have 48MP 1/2" periscope.
                          It is possible.

Telephoto Periscope , 09 Jul 2021So they actually went for 48MP telephoto instead of 8MP or ... moreAnd I think this is a good idea. You will have more pixels in your photos, 8 MP is not that much of a resolution. For example the P30 Pro had an 8 MP periscope camera, but the successor had 12 MP. They could have kept the 8 MP one, but they realized a 12 MP camera would be a better idea. Samsung for example never made a 5x zoom with 8 MP camera.

                              Despite both end up 10,5mm.

Judging the render, would not be surprise if this bump is even about 4mm.
It does look about 1/3 of overall thickness.

Too bad the cpu is basically a modified exynos 1080.
Also, for P6, I would trade UWA for a 52mm.
