Common mobile charger legislation to be proposed by EU in September

13 August 2021
EU executives are currently working on the legislation.

If they choose something other than USB-C or Lightning, the entire industry will be hit very hard, which would be very stupid for EU to choose.

Although they should stick to USB-C because most of the industry is moving on it. Even Apple themselves started using USB-C on alot of there devices (which is probably why they mentioned USB-C 😂) other than IPhone, so i would expect them to not be hurt that much if the choice happens to be USB-C

Even laptops started using USB-C

jason, 13 Aug 2021I love how Apple are complaining that it will hurt progress... moreYou're once again ignoring the fact that Lightning existed before USB-C as first ever reversible connector and it also gained adoption across entire product stack in a single generation. Most USB-C devices still haven't moved past microUSDB even in year 2021. But sure, ugly stupid Apple for not using standard that didn't even exist and was probably just a draft at that point meanwhile they already had a functioning product which means they've been developing it years before. I just love the ignorance and lack of knowledge here on GSMArena for as long as everyone can bash Apple. Funny. Really.

"Apple has stated that a universal solution would “hurt innovation” and create “a mountain of electronic waste” if consumers were forced to switch to new chargers."

You mean like the change from the USB-A adapter to the USB-C plus cables you've forced onto everyone who buys a new iPhone right Apple?

Apple opposing universal standards claiming e-waste is completely idiotic. They're one of the leaders of planned obsolescence and e-waste mountains, on top of another questionable practices

It’s funny that the fruit-logo company, which was soooo concerned with the environment and doesn’t even have the decency to include a charger for their new phones, is very offended at the prospect of users using a universal charger!

If users are no longer forced to buy chargers from THEM, then SCREW the environment!

looks like Apple lobbies department gonna start party every night with EU politicians for sometimes

I love how Apple are complaining that it will hurt progress and innovation, the company that single handedly refuses to give up the archaic and pointless lightning in favour of standardised USB-C, the bottom line is they are only concerned about their own bottom line, they are not exactly an innovative company any more anyway, more copy and paste and recycles

Well actually i have ipod that needed charging cable change cause it broke. I also know a lot of people who use the laptops from apple and have changed there laptop charging cable few times for each laptop cause constant moving it areound pack and unpack will break the cables. While you dont see it with other laptops like lenovo thinkpad what you can use 10 years and dont need any cable change. Apple even made a news like a year or 2 ago that they are cutting cost on materials and there cable business have always being good if they make them in low cost and low quality that the cable brokens and customer buy new one that usually are very expensive from apple

Also, microusb had a like a decade in use back when USB-C popped up. So, there were tons of cables, accessories and what not, and most of them were interchangeable, without any company bothering on blocking them

Strongly support this legislation. Common charging standards is good for the consumer in the long term.
