Anonymous, 13 Aug 2021Agreed bit don't bat for apple, they will be subjected... moreActually, there is nothing in the legislation mandating that a phone *must* have wired charging. All Apple needs to circumvent the USB-C mandate is move to 100% wireless charging.

The EU are really stupid on this as it will cause more waste and like Apple say it will stop innovation.
If someone comes up with a phone battery that is not a Lithium Ion battery and needs to charged at a different voltage that idea will be illegal in the EU even if the new phone battery say was charged by putting some water in it.
Saying that Apple are only into making money and their stuff is very expensive.

hmm, 13 Aug 2021What are you on about ? Apple removes charger from there ph... moreThat's because the price you pay for an iphone and the cost to produce it aren't linked, like a lot of luxury brands they'll charge whatever their customers will pay and make huge profit in the process. Try commodity items like $100 android phones instead. Remove a charger and you can reduce your price to $90 selling so many more units than your competition.

Again though just because Apple didn't do the right thing doesn't mean you should force everyone to do the wrong thing. You don't need to buy luxury brand items, stop giving them your money.

I *sort of* get Apple's thing about USB-C creating waste, in the sense that it would make a bunch of Lightning cables obsolete/junk... but at the same time, I call bullshit. If this legislation were to go through, it's not like the EU would be forcing Apple to switch every phone they currently sell – such as the 2018 iPhone XR – from a Lightning port to a USB-C port. It would only affect **future** models, plus, it's not like consumers would be forced to upgrade (let alone choose a USB-C model specifically).

Apple has stated that a universal solution would “hurt innovation” and create “a mountain of electronic waste”

Apple should shut is mouth about it. They dont include charger in the box and how is it hurting innovation when it's just a charging blug ? Like what have they innovated with the lightning port they have with iphones and there other devices ? And what E-waste it will make if all would use the Type-C charger cable ? Never mind that we already long ago now only have charger bricks that you connect your cable in it. Apple cry about it cause they need to make type-c port for EU market and that hurts them only cause they need to redesign there phone charging. And never mind that even apple devices are adopting to fast charging so they rise the speed with each model by 10W then the customers need to still buy new brick with each new model

Needless to say, Apple is living in (and welcome others to) their world of illusion. Dongles are absolute wastage for the environment and it should have been properly noted in EU legislation.

In fact, this is the key reason why I am unwilling to buy an iPhone. There are USB-C earphones and it's considered standard for all accessories as well.

Charges change as watts go up, cables are multiple, a lot counting other electronics. Sadly we haven't got wireless charging, there is no coming of second Tesla to finish that idea.

Yes agreed that companies can be evil because capitalism doesn't care about hurting people by robbing them blind, but if we mandate that every product must include a charger we force a cost to the consumer and remove the possibility of companies doing the right thing.

It is generally good to have standards if they ensure interoperability, but this is not the case here. The form factor is only the obvious part, but phone manufacturers are competing in fast charging technologies which are not only part of the charger itself but also how the battery is compartmentalized. I wouldn't want to charge my phone with just any charger. Besides cables break all the time, chargers fail too. I don't expect significant reduction in e-waste especially in developing markets.

Anonymous, 13 Aug 2021Isn't charging it multiple times daily bad for the bat... moreYou can charges mutiples times a day until you charge like this

Charge to 80% and drain to 20% and then charge to 80% and drain to 20%

If you do like this you will lose very little of battery capacity even after 2 years.

We have to deal with this until solid state battery comes since Li-ion batteries are not capable of complete discharge.
