When people start phones again, maybe only one or two manufacturers will be left and the phones will be astronomic in price. Forget poor people being able to afford phones anymore.

But on the other hand, Android phones from the same era (phones with KitKat, Lolipop, quad core, 1-2GB ram) could be still be used today as secondary "feature phones" devices with a modern extra lightweight Android Go 12 OS or something similar (still more advanced than KaiOS). This could be updated via OTA by the phone Manufacturers (either for free, or for a small price paid through the PlayStore to the manufacturers). This would lessen the electronic waste immense.

I had Nokia Lumia 820 and it didnt even last me 18 months before it screen broke down. Went static picture and guarantee repair didnt fix that and also broke 3.5mm port. So whats so good about these phones and there quality ? I also had a lot of Nokia phones before that. I basically have own like 15 different models of Nokia phones since 1998. Other brands like Ericsson i had 2 phones, one random chinese brand Leagoo and now i have Xiaomi 170 euro phone that have lasted me over 3 years no problems. What quality your talking about from the past phones that are not more quality as the phones today

C... morenewer cars do get updates?! and as cars transition from dumb cars to smart cars within this decade this will become the new norm. Only because smart phones cost less doesn't mean people should throw them away when the tiniest thing breaks but rather should be able to repair them with little cost. When Apple introduced the 29$ battery swap as a settlement in court so many people upgraded their iPhone 6 batteries that it took months for some to get the replacement because of extreme demand and that's one reason (with the other being still getting iOS updates) that so many iPhone 6 are still around while androids from that year aren't.

It's only the German government ... moreStill on the LG V20 because it does what I need and being able to pop in a new battery in 20 seconds is worth a lot to me. If I could buy a phone with a replaceable battery, it would be an instant buy from me.

                          My V20 has seen a lot of miles, but it's starting to shut down on me at random every few days, so looking for a new phone this fall.

                          Other than that.. I'm thinking the people on this site aren't in touch with reality. 7 years of security services would be a huge plus for me as I don't change my phone every year or every second year like most of the enthusiasts in here, so for me it means I can with good conscience keep my phone for 5+ years like I'm already doing, while also not exhausting our planet at the same rate.

My i7 4790k runs as fast as it was running when I bought it in 2014. There is no fundamental change in windows itself that would cause it to be slower today. Boot time is still below 30 seconds range. OS slowing down with time is only due to incompetent users that do not know how to maintain them and bloat them with use, then blame the hardware.

                              Only 7??? Thats not enough definitely.
                              I want one great phone which can last for infinite ammount of time.
                              Like Nokia of the old days.
                              Some people have old 3310 Nokia even now in top condition and working.
                              Phones, cars, computers and every other electricity device would and could last many years and should have many years of guarantee at least 25 years.
                              Who want to buy new 1000 eur device every 2 year if most countries average salary is enough to buy the most basic phone on the market.

                                They are pretty bad I believe, especially Lumia - Windows phones are borderline unusable regardless of use cases (well, unless you use your phone just for texting and calling only).

Apple priced their phones at $1000 because they could and people would still buy them on credit and for no other reasons. Apple also makes more money on apps than they do selling phones. The Apple price increases is what helped Chinese companies come in and under cut everyone else. Now Samsung is lowering their prices and pushing great A line phones. If companies start coming out with phones every two years it would cut their cost and save on the mountains of trash the world puts out. If rich companies paid workers more and didn't hold on to so much cash more people would spend more money.
