    Appe fans are hypocritical

It's not just Android phs, smart speakers, power banks, smart cameras, smart computers, just about everything is going for USB C, Apple itself was amongst the fist to use it, MacBook followed by its entire Mac line up including Mac book pro, Mac book Air, Mac Desktops, the iPads: iPad pro, iPad Air, iPad Mini, all have USB C, with regards to iPhones they screwed up by continuing with proprietary port for way too long, so they want use an excuse to deflect blame/criticism away and look smart and innovative (in this case they are not),,,Apple folks are just too tin headed to be called smart. EU plse don't budge, this fruit company is turning stale and rotting!!

blue.sun, 15 Oct 2021That's nonsense. Charging connector is always better ... moreExcept that in a world full of wirelessly charging surfaces you DO NOT need to charge your phone -- the phone will charge itself without you having to bother about pedestrian things such as remaining battery charge percentage. That is far superior than what we have today.

Hello Life, 15 Oct 2021I say get rid of all connectors. Just wireless That's nonsense.
Charging connector is always better than charging wirelessly.

The iPhone may have a Lightning port, but just like the Android phones that shipped with USB-A chargers despite having a USB-C port on the phone, Apple already puts the right charging cable in the box that allows using a regular USB-C/USB-A charger (different cables available, the same regular chargers notheless).

This is bs and apple knows it too, like there is literally no reason for Apple to randomly change to usb-c on their ipads when the could very easily stuck wit the lighting port.

I will be very glad if every smartphone has a universal (the same) adapter and connector. The only difference is: you want quick(fast, lightning etc) charge, you pay for the charger more. THAT would seriously limit the amount of electric garbage. Also, I will be completely okay with not having a charger sold with a phone.

The iPhone sales has pretty much plateaued since 2015. They hit mainstream from 2011-2015 from the 4/4S until the 6.

The problem is that Apple is right...
Indeed, we need Apple to stop with their Lightning as it makes compatibility a true hell, but on the other side, what if USB-C becomes the forced standard and just few months latter someone comes with a new protocol, non-compatible with USB (so, no including it with the next gen) and everyone moves toward it?
Then Smartphone will get stuck on the past, or worse, prevent a better standard to be mainstream because smartphones won't be compatible...

One example that already exist is magnetic ports, for the moment, because patents, they are held by few companies, including Apple, and are just collecting dust, but we might end up realizing they are great and want them, and they have tons of advantages :
                            *No physical wear.
*No possibility to break the port by bending it.
                            *Easy to connect.
                            *No ingress issues.
*is extremely low profile inside the device.

The only con is to easily disconnect, and there are solutions to address that.
It would be THE BEST way to get portless devices, remember, this is a connector, not a port, as the alternative to do everything wireless, mainly considering the pain that a simple wireless file transfer toward a computer can be, and the low-power efficiency of wireless charging in a time when we should do everything we can to reduce greenhouses emissions.

There are already adapters for that, because it is already a desired thing, here is one out of many example on Amazon :
                            https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RHVNFQ6
It is also something often used with smartwatches, and this is what I did choose to use for my fictional concept smartphone which showcase futuristic techs :

This is one of the many ways where sticking to USB-C ONLY will really kill innovations.
Ensuring native USB-C compatibility when using an adapter, or a Lightning/something to USB-A/USB-C cable would be a MUCH BETTER solution.
They'd rather enforce better stuffs, like a minimum diversity standard, limit in rebranding, 3.5mm Jack and other stuffs.

You can't BS a BSer. The EU understands innovation in and out, just look at all the new taxes they create! Furthermore, the EU takes the transition to green very seriously -- if you've been to one of those pesky and definitely not green fuel pumps lately then you'll already know the full force of green taxes. (For those of you in the UK, no, the regular fuels haven't ended and are still available in the EU; can't fault you for thinking otherwise, you guys really went "green" very fast!).

the one who got stuck with decade old lightening port talking about stagnation of innovation. what a joke.

What goes around comes around. Apple will soon realise that. They are forcing users to unnecessarily spend on basic things like charger. They started glass-back designs only because they can charge arms and length to repair it and so on. Wish EU keeps charging Apple on various grounds so the money Apple sucks from consumers are at least wasted to some extent.

Apple are arrogant for nothing...they need to forced to adopt USB-C

The same iPad Pro with a USB-C port.
