06 November 2021

As an ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, trust me, the words, meaning and measurements are not interchangeable. They are linked (P=iv). But not the same.

Fast charging is harmful to the battery but Oppo helped make it mainstream back in 2014.

I turn off fast charging for both wired or wireless on my Flip 3. I follow the 40/85 rule. My battery should degrade much slower. Fast charging generates too much heat.

Anonymous, 06 Nov 2021That's why I said "for me", I'm not say... moreAnd of course Chinese phones tend to win on bang for buck, and performance-focused customers might be more OK updating phones regularly because they'll get a better chip.

The extreme other side of this is of course Fairphone with the removable batteries and massive price gap to other phones with the same SoC (although of course there's very good reason for that gap because they also incur extra costs from their ethical supply chain).

Asus may have got it the most right, with a decent 30W cap but the ability to reduce that in software, plus the ROG phones have massive battery capacity anyway. If only they had better updates, I would have no hesitation getting the ROG Phone 3, and the 5 would be well in play if it could pass a bend test...

EG3Po, 06 Nov 2021Let's get this out: Time to charge between 22W and 25W... moreI prefer those fast charging speed. I don't care how many watt. U can buy Chinese phone and use a low wattage adaptor if u wanna use your phone for few years without change the battery, at least u have a option to slow or fast charge. That's depends how u charge it but if the phone have faster charging speed. Sometimes it help u in a difficult situation.

Samsung 25watt but still at least full charge at around 1hour. Google 2hours charge with 30w is kinda slow tbh. Even my old P30 pro 2years old phone charge faster and the battery still can last at least one full day for me.

It slower than iphone charging speed. That's funny. Better buy iPhone even is lighting port. 2hour for full charge is kinda funny for 2021 flagship phone.

Fast charge is a must for 2021. Example they should provide faster charging speed for those needed and user that don't want to change battery and maintain the battery longetivity they can buy lower wattage power brick like since the box won't come with a adaptor.

Makes sense to charge up to 80% quickly and then slow a bit for battery longevity. Say I intend to keep using my unit until updates stop, I do not want to replace battery. True issue is low screen on time, charge speed (1h up to 80%) is good enough for me.

notafanboy, 06 Nov 2021Speak for yourself. Also it doesn't matter unless you ... moreThat's why I said "for me", I'm not saying it applies to everyone. That being said, I think most people don't really care. Often people who are fanboying those ultrafast chargers already have it on their Xiaomi's/Huawei's, and it's one thing that their phones are "better" than classic flagships like Samsung's or Apple's (even though "better" is a strong word because ultrafast chargers naturally come with either bulkier phone or smaller capacity, because you can't beat physics (See Redmi Note 11 Pro vs Pro+).

Also as the guy before me said, you see a battery degradation MUCH faster than that. Even much more in very cold/very hot climates and depends you charge your phone to 100% everytime or keep it at 80/90%, how much gaming you do etc. (because, again, can't beat physics - more heat means more battery degradation). If some companies do X cycles in a laboratory settings means nothing about how the battery will act in real life.

That's interesting because the iPhone 13 Pro Max charges at 27W

Didn't think an Android phone would be lower than that
