Weekly poll: are you using 5G on your phone?

23 January 2022
Recently launched phones typically support 5G and many carriers  already have 5G networks. But coverage is far from 100%.

I get 300Mbit on 4G or pay 50% more to get 500-1000Mbit on 5G. Yeah I don't need 5G at this time. 5G phone and 5G available.

Well, there should have been another option on the poll.

I have a 5G phone, 5G is available in my country, but not where I live.

turned it offi, battery life is more important to me

No as it user much more battery and only works in the middle of big cities in our country (Sweden)
Also since 4G/4G+ can easily reach 300Mbit the 5G is only really needed when you need lower ping for certain things and over 1Gbit.

Countries that has 5G where 300Mbit is the new standard is getting cheated imo as that speed, you should reach on 4G+/LTE-A which is not 5G or 5Ge

Vegetaholic, 24 Jan 2022Lol. Asia is big region. But most of the countries there do... moreWithout the vast manufacturing capabilities that exist in Asia, your so-called cheap 5G phone would be easily three times the price. Pretty easy to guess who would be the one crying while paying for a 5G phone then. So don't you talk trash about Asia and Asians. And yes they can afford 5G phones, since it's all made here, you clown

No need for shitty 5G, just an excuse to sell even more overpriced phones that nobody needs.

But was funny to read you.
Be happy you not live here. 90% of people live from 600-800 eur a month from which 70% goes to bills. Only rent in Bratislava starts from 250+ for a 3 room flat if is in your pessesion.
If not househsare is from 250 a room in that flat. But trying to image paying 200 000 eurs from 600-800 eur salary is like eintstein theory of relativity and in this case is impossible.

I really see no point in using 5G right now, even 4G in most countries is not used at full speed. Now 5G is just marketing and battery consuming. Maybe in 2-3 years is going to be mature enough to be used daily, but for now, I'll pass. Sadly, many people are victims of all this marketing campaigns.

In area where's 4G only have 1 mbps or 2mbps or even lower, 5G certainly needed. So, dense area like metropolitan surely need 5G more than rural area.

Shanti Dope, 23 Jan 2022I do use 5G but the thing is that it commonly reaches only ... moreThere's a various condition how to achieve your 800mbps. Probably only you use that bandwidth, near tower, and that tower have very good configuration. Theoretically, 4G can achieve 4 gbps with its maximum configuration. So 5g benefit comes from technolgy beam forming and massive mimo for end user like us, it means, with the same condition as when you used 4g, you get better power and quality signal, so you get better throughput and latency. The importance of 5g for us varies depend on how often we use 4g or public wifi or private wifi for our daily life.

Well yes but only kind of.

There is lots of "5G" available here in Germany offered by Vodafone and Telekom (o2 rarely outside of big cities) but it's mostly DSS on N1, N3 and N28 so no real benefit over LTE.

I keep wondering why people think their lives will be better if they get 5G on their phone.

I'm not looking for flagship, not even high end midranger. So, all of these are perfect for me. All I want is a big and good screen and good battery life and an average chipset. Everything else is secondary. There are great phones with 5G, like Poco F3, but this is transition era where 5G on a phone is still a feature for pricing bumps and specs "compromises".

I completely forgot that my old SM-N976F has 5G 😂. So I vote NO because I live in rural areas and my network provider just setup 4G tower nearby my house just last year.

Probably gonna have to wait at least 4-5 years for them to implement 5G.

Here in the philippines. Some people still use the OLD network such as 2G or 3G. And they're still going strong because there are still a lot of people using a typical NUMPAD phones as backup phones.
