If you buy an Android phone, you don't lose your rights to criticize an Apple phone. Do you understand that sideloading is an option? If you don't want to do it, it's fine. It doesn't affect you in any way. Nobody points a gun to your head and forces you to do that.

I use Android and side load apps regularly but yes it is after all a big risk to do that and Apple is not wrong to prohibit that on iPhones

Well, they are not wrong. Only reason why app security is on any kind of decent level is because it's air tight. Only their moderated app store and zero sideloading and zero rooted devices (masochistic people Jailbreaking iPhones don't even count). Would sideloading come in handy sometimes? Sure. Is it really necessary? No, not really. Android has sideloading and if app doesn't exist on GooglePlay, it basically doesn't exist at all. Kids sideloading Fortknife were a minority and only because it was all the rage at some point. General public doesn't care about any of it, sideloading or Forklift, I mean Forknite...

I frankly don't understand the outrage of some people. Who ever holds gun to your head and demand sthat you buy an iPhone? No one. You can freely buy an Android phone and that's that.

Maybe I can finally have a proper version of Google Chrome on iPad.

The only thing sideloading apps is unsafe for is Apple's overly bloated bottom line.

FatShady, 03 Feb 2022it's not like people are free to do whatever they want... moreThey should just make people pay for it at the cost of losing warranty. Yeah, the Android makers. Not this company because someone needs to think about the children.

The nerve of the fruit logo company! Sideloading apps is harmful, yes, for THEIR greedy pockets! And they also have the nerve to call their practices „pro-consumer“???

The fact that their own Macs can install any application from any source is the most obvious reason that their „malware“ arguments are nonsense and absurd.

Well it IS unsafe, but you need to find a middle ground between safety and usability. Android does it better by strongly recommending the Store, but allows sideloading with warnings.

Of course it is. But that's not what this is about. "The legislation will hurt Apple’s 15-30% cut of any app sale and in-app purchase and jeopardize the phones’ security with the sideloaded applications".

                                There it is.

There are zero legals issue for Apple not doing that. There are plenty financial issues though (which to have full control of the ecosystem).

People who trade freedom for security or convenience deserve neither.

                                        Apple needs to allow sideloading.
