Mass production will begin this month.

They only come back when they do a "long term review". TBF it's really not different than how most people use their phones. The main thing is, people don't take what I say about my experience with an iPhone 12 or Galaxy S21 as gospel because my experience with such devices is limited. I don't understand why consumers would treat phone reviewers any different. Reading a review is an information gathering process for me, but the opinions will never influence my purchase decision.

The biggest differences will be process node and cost. Apple's custom cores are the exception. Qualcomm provided a lot of value in the 800 / 801 / 805 days, but now there's not a huge difference.

The next is that they are able to include some additional Google specific functionality. Say what you wan't about Tensor, but Pixel 6 has been as low as $550 so clearly there is some cost saving they are able to pass to the consumer. The $450 Pixel 6a will have the same SoC.

Anonymous, 01 Jun 2022No matter how good the chip is, the Android OS will always ... moreWhen was the last time you actually used an Android phone? Your claim is not consistent with reality.

Anonymous, 01 Jun 2022It's not completely nonsense. Just look at TSMC made d... moreUuum, the fact they put it on TSMC node means they optimized it. How many times do I have to repeat that you can't just throw chip designs into whatever node you desire? You can't just take chip designated to be fabbed in Samsung fabs to TSMC and say "make me this" and they'll just plop it into their machines and make it. It DOESN'T work that way.

And when you're preparing chip design for certain fab node, you can and most likely will tweak it for that node or learn from past mistake and adjust it accordingly. Comparing SD 8+ Gen1 and regular SD 8 Gen1 makes no sense because they are NOT the same chip even if they only put + in the name. Same goes for Dimensity 9000. It was designed from the start to be TSMC fabbed. Although Dimensity 9000 was so hyped to totally kick all the competition yet it ended up being less than capable and almost impossible to even buy in Europe. I have yet to see any Dimensity 9000 phones. Hell, even Dimensity 1000 series are almost non existent.

Another underwhelming Chip for a overpriced bug ridden device that seeks to be the best of what android has to offer. They should either price their phones more reasonably or get really competitive.

Just look at TSMC made dimensity 9000, 8100, sd870 and the 8+ gen 1 when compared to Samsung made 888, Tensor, Exynos and 8 gen 1. The latter are known for being less efficient and overheating more. Some people say it's due to "optimization" issue. No its not, how come 8+ gen 1 show better efficiency despite having no time to go through optimization yet? Or why is it that when Snapdragon chips are made by TSMC, Exynos variants of S series always performs worse and be less efficient to the point customers around the world complain?

A new rice cooker on the way..
TSMC is leader of manufacturing chips no matter snappy or bionic..
Too bad they are now all alone in this business..
You better keep taiwan as it is now lol !
Otherwise the future of all apple silicon nvidia tesla and bla bla is in big danger !

AnonD-546724, 01 Jun 2022Google should have pick TSMC. Samsung foundries are the... moreCan people stop with this nonsense that TSMC just magically waves away all the problems with whatever node they have? Tensor chip is, like we have already established million times a slightly redesigned Exynos chip. It was designed for Samsung's fab node. You can't just magically mash the chip design into whatever fab node you desire. It DOESN'T work that way. If Samsung wanted to fab Exynos chip in TSMC factory, they'd have to redesign chip specifically for TSMC's fab node. Which takes time and costs. And doesn't mean it would be better as is. Sure, there may be less electrical leakage or higher yields with TSMC, but if chip is designed in certain way, it'll be certain way. If it's clocked beyond its sweet spot to strive for performance over efficiency, it won't matter who makes it, be it Samsung, TSMC, Intel or GlobalFoundries.

Haplo, 01 Jun 2022I don't like the author's thesis "proved to ... moreIt's almost common knowledge at this point that Google devices have one of the worst software. Which is rather shameful given that Google is primarily software company. And to make matter worse, they are the authors of Android OS. They make bunch of elementary mistakes and they need ridiculously long time to fix most. The 5 years of software updates is almost meaningless because they keep breaking things and can't seem to fix old stuff.

                            Google should have pick TSMC.

Samsung foundries are the worst on earth, based on the same 4nm process Tensor II would be both more powerful & efficient if it was manufactured by TSMC.

Just see what happened with S8+ Gen 1.
It's the flagship soc we should've got in the first place but Samsung failed to deliver.

Hopefully, the new tensor chip wouldn't have the same thermal issues that Qualcomm had in the 8 gen 1. If they do, it's bad for Google.

I assure you that the battery even with the updates was still not what you expect from the pixel. That being said, it is good that you find it decent. One can only imagine your reaction when you try some of those phones with oh so much durability like the hiddem gem Mi Note 10 lite or the S21 (SD variant not exynos) and many more.
