And editing videos/photos and working with apps, gets slowed down on random times, because the slow card can't follow the internal storage. Install apps on your card. Delete them and install again without the card. Watch how much the card slows down the phone. I use my phone as tool and game console, and a card simply just slow it down. Exactly like using hdd in a fast computer powered by ssd only.

        I was always in the camp of I will not buy a phone without micro sd but unfortunately I was forced to buy one without it because each and every phone has something missing so had no choice in the matter. Its terrible what the companies forces us to do

          I really don't understand the logic of some people commenting here. It's about choices people, having the slot doesn't force you to use it, you can still use only the internal memory or cloud. But not everyone has a constant high-speed internet connection, and there are many people who travel a lot and don't always have the possibility to stream and so on. If you don't use it, fine, it's your choice, but leave it to those who do.

I keep the microSD for my FLAC collection of music and all the photos and videos. If I have to change the phone, I just take the card from one phone and insert into the other. It takes 1 minute, not more.

I have used the phones with and without microSD card and the performance is always the same. If you don't install apps on the card performance is in no way affected.

                So far said,to many of us there are reasons SD card shouldn't be extinct. Cool 😇

                But looking back somehow the increase in storage affects the ram processing of modern phones of today due to the ram and rom set up of before are unlike today devices....EXAMPLE

                The s9+comes with 6gb rams and 64gb roms,of which the space (ROMs) provided will probably consume only 50% of the RAMs available,definitely allows the consumer to add up his own SD card to store more data with less risk.

Memory cards have incredibly primitive controller which only works well for sequential reads/writes (storage of larger files like photos and videos). Give it some more complex task or bunch of small files and it'll choke entirely. It's why proper SSD's have very fast dedicated controllers and extra work memory to handle all the requests as they pile up.

                      The angry keyboard warriors whining about the loss of the slot on their favorite flagship, they're those into modding.

                      Manufacturers won't keep slots just to please 5% of the population. Strangely the said 5% think they're 95%.

                          Sd card won't will not replace smartphone internal storage because sd card are way slower, it's only suitable for media.

                              I use about 64 GB of 128 GB.

                                Yes for me... Versatility in storage..you can upgrade based on ur usage..

                                  I never used micro sd cards. Maybe only in the beginning, when phones internal storage was 8-16Gb. I used a 32Gb micro sd card in that period.
                                  All of my photos and music in the past 10 years occupied about 25Gb. Yeah, I am an introvert without many friends, that doesn't like taking too many photos.
                                  I may be in minority, but also I don't really care about other people complaining's (Ohh, I am so sad, I will not buy another smartphone again, no headphone jack, no micro sd cards, etc.). Lol.

                                  So, I don't need much storage and I don't care about micro sd cards.

                                    Phone makers for reason nobody knows reduce the speed of reading/writing.
                                    These cards should work bit above 100Mb/s, but in the end do not even reach 30 because of phone software.

                                      Rocking 256GB internal and 1TB sdcard.

                                      When extra 1TB internal costs the same as sdcard then I'm willing to leave sdcard behind.

                                      Storage space and ability to move it fast from mt phone to another is more important to me than useless AR features, more Mpix or Mhz.

                                        98,5% of the "no micro sd, no buy" people have phones without it.
                                        99% of " For this price should have 5 years updates" people get new phone every 10-18 months.
