I don't really care anyway.

The Flip, 23 Jun 2022I don't see phones being any more "fun" or p... moreWe cover up back with a case because we are afraid the fragile rounded edges (that protrudes out of the frame) on front will break ... An awkward solution isn't it?
Why did they stop putting a metal/plastic lip around the touchpad like old moto and samsung j series. And samsung really fought for it for a long time for the flat , evenly thick front touchpad . But they had to lose to survive . And now even they make these rounded edge touchpad that protrudes the frame

Domestoboto, 23 Jun 2022But consider that the 'muricans buy more HIGHER-PROFIT... moreNot even. The profit margins you discuss are mostly isolated to Apple in the consumer electronics space. It's important to note that Apple has these same profit margins worldwide. Do you think Blu has a 30% profit margin by virtue of the US market? Motorola? Brand recognition and consumer mind share drive this. People see their products as a sign of prestige.

Anonymous, 22 Jun 2022Nothing has been accused of being an arm of governement too... moreIt's any Chinese company that gets too successful. Xiaomi was put on the entity list temporarily. They probably had to make some undisclosed concessions.

blue, 23 Jun 2022America and Europe are high profit markets, people buy most... moreIn the US people don't buy more expensive handsets, they finance them. Usually trough carriers.
And once you finance a phone a lot of people don't care about the upfront cost, newer manufacturers have to face this reality.
Unless the US can have a substantial unlocked buyer base, it will always be a depreciated market

Can’t really blame Nothing for this. For the amount of phones they are selling, the patents/licensing and approvals to get the phone brought in is not worth it

Anonymous, 22 Jun 2022Biggest market? Have you seen how many phones are sold in ... moreAmerica and Europe are high profit markets, people buy mostly more expensive phones. With these markets gone China and India would never pay all the innovation that is being made.
Selling millions of cheap phones to people, who only buy each five years, barely makes you live...

sq2013, 22 Jun 2022To be fair what more can you do? If you look at the progres... moreI don't see phones being any more "fun" or practical either. It's reached its limits with form factor. Most of this rear back light show is all for gimmicks. I see MKBHD trying to make the back look actually useful but it isn't. A novelty. Who puts it reversed any way? And many of us just cover it up with a case.
I could care if this Nothing device ever reaches our shores. Nobody cares. And why would I want a 7 series chipset? It's a lot of hype for really Nothing. I'm ok with foldable flip phones because while they are thick and durability remains a question, they do fit in my pocket. It's also easy to use a holster case for them.
I've gotten so bored with phones that I'm thinking of getting a HTC One M7 for a third time just because I miss the headphones it came with it. I won't even use the phone much. Just keep it in my collection because I miss it. My favorite design for a slab. Can't believe it's been 9 years.

Anonymous, 22 Jun 2022Biggest market? Have you seen how many phones are sold in ... moreBut consider that the 'muricans buy more HIGHER-PROFIT-MARGIN smartphones than the Indians and Chinese who gravitate towards much cheaper "flagship killer" options from XIAOMI and the BBK family, i.e.: Apple makes more money selling 1 iPhone 13 Pro Max than Xiaomi does selling 7 or 8 Redmi Note 11s (not to mention the App Store 30% cut and the even higher profit margins of the Macs). That's why companies REALLY want to break into the USA market, which Nothing wants to give... nothing about.

Anonymous, 22 Jun 20225G works for verizon and T-mobile. Sony shows the 5G indicator if it sees a 5G signal. It's not necessarily using it or even capable of using it. After owning the Xperia 1 III for a while, I can say that it's a complete mess on T-Mobile. SA 5G is disabled yet it chooses channel aggregations requiring it. It doesn't support the smaller carriers so it's dead when it should have rural roaming.
It's the worst performing phone I've seen in about 20 years.

Do not miss. Way more important than iphone 14 event or pixel 7.
Unlike these two brands, HTC had many contributions to tech world.

sq2013, 22 Jun 2022To be fair what more can you do? If you look at the progres... moreIt is all about costs. Phones could have more, but they would cost 2x more than now.
1) Camera: Sony has category of sensors used by industry called Starvis. They have a special kind of photodiodes that are extremely light sensitive, have super high DR and too fast readout.
2) true wireless charging
3) audio hardware used by music players like ipod and walkman
4) optical zoom is expensive. The longer is the FL, the more it costs.
There are other stuff. OEMs have many patents they will never use.
Graphene batteries will never make to phones. It is not about OEMs trying to avoid longer lifespam. Not even cars are other home electronics have these batteries yet.
