Weekly poll: is the Asus Zenfone 9 the perfect phone for you?

31 July 2022
Small but powerful, with few compromises (though some might prove to be deal breakers). Is this the best small Android flagship?

"If there were a cheaper version of the same design" is my poll vote.

Someone explain the purpose of making anything less than a flagship completely ugly with terrible "features".... oh, what's that? Profit? Ah, makes sense.

    Too expensive

I'm not an Asus fan as I only had bad experiences with them especially when it came to battery life. Standby time was terrible on this Asus Windows 8 tablet with attachable keyboard I had. Sold it 2 years later for $50 when originally bought for about $230.

Then I owned a Zenfone Go variant with 5" display I got for 3000 pesos in the Philippines when living in Baguio. Battery would completely die 16 hours later even if I didn't use it. I did everything to try to conserve battery life and it still dies on me on 16-hour standby even if it's on airplane mode and the screen is off the entire time!

Never again with Asus. I had bad experiences with HTC too. Maybe I have bad luck with Taiwanese products? But with all that said, this looks like a decent product. Includes headphone jack which is always a plus as wireless headphones kills battery life at least 4x-10x faster and you're still obligated to charge that and the phone.

I'll stick to brands I can depend on. That seems like Samsung or Apple by this point. Motorola is letting me down with all these glitches on my Razr 5G. That Wi-Fi calling toggle never seems to go away no matter what I do. Google lost me once they went too large and with Tensor. Pixels are always plagued with issues. Google has poor QC. While Sony is too niche and expensive.

The iphone Mini is still the only proper small flagship. Asus is just unsuccessfully trying to get on that bandwagon.

When Asus makes something. They mean it . One of the few honest tech company left out there. Who sell phone as a piece of tech , Not as a fashion accessory or as a social status .

The phone is nearly my dream it has the perfect size for me so compact but it has high specs, good quality (although plastic back)and good display, big battery IP 68 certificate, unfortunately the camera midrange level so so disappointed ☹️

Anonymous, 31 Jul 2022Yeah, I don't get why people diss about that one phone... morePeople in the majority somehow have this sense of entitlement that what they don't want shouldn't exist. The existence of this phone literally doesn't take away their sea of options yet somehow, that's not enough.

And then it would be the battery, that would be the component taking up most of the volume. By that time we would have the perfect phone.

Maybe because not so many people actually buys small phones nowadays. Not even Apple, with their immense fan base, had good sales with their Mini series. And Apple fans are some of the most dedicated ones out there.
So, imagine other companies doing small phones (below 6”) on a regular basis. Not gonna happen any time soon.
Nowadays everybody is using their phones as power gadgets. Is the most important gadget in our lives. If you want a phone just for basic stuff, get a Nokia, lol.

Pricing is not as bad in other markets ($699 in US) but if the price doesn't drop to somewhere more competitive in all markets soon, maybe wait and see what the upcoming s23 will offer now that every market is going to get Snapdragon 8 gen 2 (by TSMC like 8+ gen 1) per recent rumor.

"Google believed that conventional chipsets weren't enough for what it wanted to be possible on a smartphone, and the Google Pixel 6 Pro is a culmination of years of research and development that led to Google's first customized Tensor chipset (produced by Samsung), along with the integration of that chipset with advanced software features and improving camera performance all around. The new chipset enables quicker and more efficient on-device language processing, and it allows for Google's computational photography to work faster than before."
