31 July 2022
Small but powerful, with few compromises (though some might prove to be deal breakers). Is this the best small Android flagship?

Beast for sure, especially in the audio area which is, subjectively, the most important thing to me + relatively compact size.. but, price will do that it will stay only remain on wishing "yes, i want this phone" and mobile operators in "my" cntry do not offer, not only Asus, devices but also devices from not so much mainstream manufacturers.. conformism or business manipulation through monopoly or whatever but today's market is horrible

Almost, if it had an SD card slot it would be the perfect device for me. I'm a heavy music listener and I don't always have wi-fi or data access so I have to have my own music on my phone so an SD is needed for me.

If there were still a flip variant then it would have my attention. Not with a hole in the screen though.

AnonD-1037771, 31 Jul 2022No SD card slot = NO BUY! => RIP on the shelves! No, I ... moreYou know what? The childish crying about microSD everywhere is quite... stupid.

"The Samsung Galaxy S22 ($800/€850) will receive four OS upgrades and five years of security patches. That’s better than Google’s Pixel 6 (3 upgrades, 5 years of patches). And much better than the Pixel 6a, which is more comparable in terms of size (but only gets 3 years of patches instead of 5)."

It's interesting how Google finally has its own SoC to brand but it still has less OS updates as Samsung's. What's the point having your own SoC like Tensor when you can't even update it longer than Samsung's using Snapdragon? But it boggles the mind that unlocked Samsung phones gets a worse software updating experience as locked ones. They usually get it last.

Kane M, 31 Jul 2022S22 and 6a aren't really in the same league, and pixel... moreYou're right, it's just brand loyalty. When it comes to spending my money, I only trust the brands I mentioned. I do not trust the quality of the Asus brand. The author of this survey also criticized poor software support as a serious flaw considering the high price and competition.

The Galaxy S22 5G and the Pixel 6a are in the same league in the best small Android phone category.

According to the author of this survey:

"The Samsung Galaxy S22 ($800/€850) will receive four OS upgrades and five years of security patches. That’s better than Google’s Pixel 6 (3 upgrades, 5 years of patches). And much better than the Pixel 6a, which is more comparable in terms of size (but only gets 3 years of patches instead of 5)."

"The Pixel 6a ($450/€460) is closer to the mark. Its OLED panel lacks a high refresh rate mode and it only has Gorilla Glass 3 protection (the phone as a whole is rated IP67). It does use the same Tensor chipset as the flagship Pixels, but the main camera is a small, old 12MP sensor that has to rely on Google’s processing magic to get decent shots."

Rest of the points I agree, not a great device for this price.

that is simply one of the ugliest and unrefined phone released this year with small screen and yet not exactly smaller than a proper S22. also horrendous software support based on history.

If I was in the market for an Android, it would be on my shortlist. However, the software support of Samsung and Google are strong arguments. The 6a is too big for my taste.

                                Too small
                                Only 1080p display
                                Only 16 million colour display
                                No micro SD
Disappointing camera set-up (no zoom/tele lens)
Too thick for how small the battery is
Chunky bezels you'd expect on a budget phone
                                Plastic back
Only 30W charging when many competitors are offering 80W
And way too expensive at €800

This is DOA. The sales figures will be awful

I love the form factor, but €200 more than the previous gen is ridiculous! Zenfone 8 now looks like a better deal now...

8 years old android phones are dog slow and barely usable. I still have around an oneplus 3T which aged a lot worse compared to a Mi-A1 for example.

Only old iphones are still usable today, somewhat securely.

I wish there would be phones like that but cheaper, not that tall, could be even 10mm thick but big battery and smaller screen.
