The last update is a bug to slow down the phone so that you're forced to upgrade. Hence the trade in program with later models ( trade in s10 to get s22 & so forth).

5.5 year old S8 gets it
What's even funnier is that the 7 year old Galaxy Note 5 got this update as well
Am waking up this morning seeing my Note 5, and I see "Update Available"...

Using Lineage19.1 on my old S6 edge, so no problem with updates for old phones :)

This update MAYBE be to slow down the phone to encourage you to buy their latest. Im happy with my s8 plus with 6gb RAM in 2022. I am going to ignore the update.

I had a moto g9 power, in 1.8 years, from 18hrs sot it had only 6 hrs sot left. Recharging the battery every day with fast charger and using the battery on low power kills it even faster.
It is a prophecy that my 5yo s8 still gets 4 hours of sot at 1440p res

Same Battery draining issue was with my galaxy note 8. After changing the battery mode to power mode, I am now getting almost full day battery.

This is bs. All these dumb articles have made "update" a huge deal when in the cases of old devices all it really does is to slow them down. Apple is well known for this crap. Namely the original iPhone SE was a victim. Tbh my own old Galaxy Watch SM R800 got the same 30mb GPS update and the junk is still laggy as it was when I bought it.

you guy should replace battery every 1.0 to 2.0 years, just like car battery.
bcuz daily frequent fast charging, pre-mature aging also cause throttled performance.
replace the battery, not just phone, laptop battery also have the same effect.
less voltage, less power, less performance.

low spec small capacity lithium battery with non-stop recharging, it's battery is aging faster and causing throttling performance to iPhone.

Done with Samsung. S20 FE 5G and A52s. Draining battery like hell. Apart from that, pretty fine at 350-400USD.

The sad fact is that Samsung has discovered a serious bug in the GPS software only after years and several generations of flagship smartphones and even sees the need to fix it in the S8.
Again, proof that we users who buy these devices for a lot of money are beta testers of immature products, as the S22 impressively proves once again. Samsung doesn't give a shit about what we users really want and need.
This has led to us having smartphones with useless corved screens, with welded-in batteries that cannot be changed by the user, to battery runtimes beyond evil that have to be recharged at least twice a day. That destroys the battery faster and fast-charging is a joke because it destroys the battery even faster. So they sell us junk that we have to replace with new junk every 2-3 years because the battery is dead. The goal is profit maximisation and the design guideline "form before function" and the faster it breaks down the better for Samsung, because the repair costs to have a battery replaced are unbearably high.
