Mark Gurman: iPhones are moving to USB-C measure next year, but it's "just a stopgap"

10 October 2022
The analyst believes that Apple's ultimate goal is to make devices that only use wireless (i.e. inductive) charging.

Rosso, 10 Oct 2022Why oh why would they switch to only wireless charging........ moreMagsafe isn't just wireless charging.

Wireless charging will always slow. What's the point you use a plate to charger your phone while the phone is connected wireless, the plate itself always connected to a wall charger. Lol.
Crapple won't use USB c so you can't just use third party android phone charger that already support fast charging.
They always thinking about profit in any segments.

Type C is really cool. I got rid of Micro USB. I have zero electronics with Micro USB. Only Type C and not less than Bluetooth 5 connectivity.

A-R-T-E, 10 Oct 2022Arm just makes standard Soc, it's upto them too modif... moreUm, no. iPhones still have full 5G capability. It's just not with modem inside chipset, it's a dedicated Qualcomm's 5G modem soldered NEXT to Apple's Bionic chipset. This is because Apple simply doesn't have its own 5G modem design, but they are working on it with Intel's modem division they bought few years ago. When it'll be ready, it'll be integral part of chipset. I don't know where you got the idea they were "banned". That makes no sense. They did have some patent and licensing disputes with Qualcomm, but that's not related to 5G directly, otherwise they wouldn't still be using Qualcomm's 5G modems in all latest iPhones.

          Apple has no 5g patents
Snapdragon banned apple using 5g, last year, apple is paying high prices too use it.

A-R-T-E, 10 Oct 2022Lmao, 5g is by snapdragon including modem All the gimmick... moreI love your lies. You really think Apple has no patents in 5G, modems, ARM chipsets etc.? Of course they have, only blinded haters don't want to see.
Without Apple the mobile world is doomed, just as without any other competitor. Apple helps developing instruction sets for ARM chipsets, their own M1/M2 CPU beat all competition in efficiency so far that even ARM tries to learn from them, but no, Apple does not innovate.
            You haters are really funny.

But to leave at it, because that discussion has been made a zillion of times, someone already said it nicely, and I agree with it that wireless charging is a nice thing to have, but not if forced as the only option.

There are a ton of devices and even Android phones that have USB-C, but use it at 2.0 speeds.

Anyhow Lightning on it's own just got old, simple as that.

To be fair, type C does not guarantee higher speed... cofcofxiaomicofcof

There is still possibility, Apple will make two versions of iPhone - one for EU only with USB-C and the other for other countries with Lightning.

type-C is not power only.it is also used for data.how is it possible to keep data port without charging? besides, wireless charging is much slower and much much less energy efficient.it consumes almost twice the power compared to wired charging.

“Gurman believes that Apple’s use of USB-C will be short lived and that the company’s end goal is to use only wireless charging like MagSafe.”

Aside from the fact that Gurman is nothing more but a attention seeker that will claim anything to stay relevant.

If this is true Samsung, Google and others will follow just as soon after, because then they can drop the charging cable and sell more own made wireless chargers.

I never liked the idea of forced wireless charging, it’s like doing payments with my phone, when I need to I pay with my phone, when I do not I grab my physical card.

                            Same with charging

And I bet ya that Apple and Samsung will hike up prices after this again…

It's going to very funny when they announce it and act like it was their decision to bring this "much better" port, meanwhile they were forced to and heavily opposed the ruling.

All the gimmicks features apple called from io7 to io16 is all patents by others, not apple. Apple has bogus patents. You're depending a company who steals others ideas and claim they invented.
Arm foundries stops supplying apple, they are down tge dustbin trash.

Horrible move to go pure wireless.

Wireless sucks, whether it's wifi, charging or bluetooth.

The latency is never going to be even close to wired. You can actually feel and hear the difference. Not to mention to inconvenience, ugh.

I'd rather use a rotary landline then a piece of wireless add infested glass.
