I actually have the most recent SE. This will show up in two years. I usually don’t change phone before 4-5 years. Maybe wait for the next one. But what will it be based on? Also XR as the iPhone 8 design went for two SE generations? Probably. So this’ll be the biggest and heaviest phone I’ve so far owned. The coming SE will have a modest bump in battery life compared to the actual SE. Camera the same and same performance since probably same chipset.

I think it would make more sense to adopt the body of the X/Xs series, but then I guess the Amoled screen would make it cost more... Not that you can't buy a decent Amoled screen Android phone for 300-400 euros, but anyway, Apple...

Could have given an ultrawide too, since pixel a series also have one.

😂 Apple wants to make this a quick one before EU's switch to USB-C law becomes mandatory.

It's mostly just Xiaomi with sub brands and BBK group with all its sub brands that are constantly getting rebranded among their sub brands. I don't exactly remember Samsung doing that either. Maybe some of their lesser cheaper models like F and M series which are mostly directed at developing countries.

                        I mean, finally.

The resolution it has is just the perfect sweet spot to have nice smooth, but still sharp enough graphics while being easy on battery and chipset. Display is excellent imo. Superb viewing angles, superb blacks for LCD, can go super dark and also pretty bright (it's bighter than OLED's on XS models!), resulting in really good contrast ratio.

Getting a 4 year old iPhone with a new SoC for $430 seems like a good deal comparatively to getting a new iPhone with the same SoC for $800+ if you really love iOS I guess. It all really just comes down to how important iOS is for individual consumers.

If you go modifying design, you'll be increasing costs. Whole point of SE using old proven design is cutting costs. Chipset and denser RAM chips don't require much redesigning if any, just soldering of these components to existing board designs. Changing notch would mean using entirely different display panel, different smaller sensors, possibly even chassis to fit in the tighter packed sensors, changes that just don't make any sense and would just increase costs.

SShock, 20 Oct 2022Long overdue change. Those thick chin and forehead of iPhon... moreMy gf has the XR and I had it as the work phone with my previous employer. IMO the screen and camera are subpar, but definitely serviceable. I just think the screen to body ratio on the XR is not that great. The XR is quite a chonky phone with a 6.1" sub 1080p screen. If they shrank the body or went to 1080p it would make a big difference in the experience. Otherwise, it's hard for me to see why this would be worth buying over an iPhone 12, 13 or 14. There is something to be said about getting the cheapest iPhone, but I think getting a better value for your money is more important.

Chassis and most features yes, but they always added latest chipset and more RAM on top of newer iOS. It's more like old design with refreshed components which is not what I'd call rebranding. Rebranding is when Xiaomi sells same Redmi devices under Poco name with zero hardware changes. Just different colors don't quite justify a "change".
