seems a company will lose some amount of money due licensing lightning port
that's why they don't want to switch to usb-C and in a way of self-defending said it will be a e-waste, LMAO

Hopefully this is the first of more reforms to force companies to act responsibly, imagine how much Ewaste would get saved if Apple were forced to put back all the ports into their laptops, tens of millions of tonnes saved in useless dongles, also all the sheep companies that will follow Apples lead. Users get the versatility back in their machines and save some money in the process. Everyone wins, Apple wins a bit less, boohoo. Should have been done years ago and then I could of got me a 13 mini with usbC and a headphone jack, another port removed to force customers to spend even more money, should be illegal to be so greedy.

Companies only bundling USB-C to USB-C cables with phones now is just weird given how almost no one has charger with USB-C output. I have bunch of chargers and all of them have USB-A outputs. Makes no sense. Would almost say Sony is the best for not including even the cable, but that's a d**k move by itself on the other hand...

I honestly do not understand why Apple would stick to the e-waste notion and still charge you extra or heck not reduce the price of their phone. I hope other nations adopt and fight big corporations in their greed and slow way in adopting current technology.

As someone that owned both Android and Apple devices, this is a smart move. Already do their iPads support USB C (which invalids the argument that this move was delayed to reduce waste), but the other appeal would be to (hopefully) allow Apple devices to transfer files much more quickly to a PC. It felt Apple was dead set to keep people in their eco as opposed to given the consumer choices as to how they want to use their devices.

Anonymous, 26 Oct 2022Apple fan boy spottedYou are right on that one. The fanboy here is YOU. You have to dismiss even things where Apple actually made better design just because you desperately need to spite everything Apple does. Lightning port is one big hole and connector is just a flat surface that fits in it. USB-C on the other hand, connector has a thin slot on the connector and the port has plastic bit in the middle, both prone for crap getting in and being hard to get out. Lightning is easier to maintain as far as this goes.
