Wireless, 26 Oct 2022Do not care. Never used wires. The only time to use wires, ... moreYou would be surprised how many times it does NOT work and I need the cable (for data).

And I don’t use the cloud, many reasons for that.

Charging wirelessly is fine but bad for the environment considering the lost energy while doing so, not a Apple only issue.

"the switch to USB-C would create a lot of e-waste as people are pushed to buy new cables and discard the old ones" Yeah, that you wouldn't be a problem if they didn't insist on stifling innovation exclusively on their phones. They could have switched years ago to USB-C and tons of people would have ended up with so much less Lightning cables but they didn't. They kept shipping them with their phones, they kept selling them, they kept fighting against a clearly better standard. On that topic, I don't know why shipping bricks with phones is a problem, but shipping cables isn't.

VoNR, 26 Oct 2022Were you born wirelessly too? When the person is born, the wire gets cut, its called an umbilical cord :D

Do not care. Never used wires. The only time to use wires, is to take out the brand new phone, attach to the Mac, "Show this iPhone on Wifi". Done.

David, 26 Oct 2022Apple should have gone straight from their 30 pin connector... moreUSB-C wasn't ready when iPhone 5 came out and they had to miniaturize the connector so they went with their own version (Lightning).

Most people forget that the iPhone 5 was supposed to have usb c in 2012,but the rest of the industry could not agree on the standard.
Lightning port was created for the same reason.

So great move from the EU... just that the amount of waste that will be generated is enormous! For example, a number of countries and the private sector have spent tons of resources on adding USB charging stations in trains, airports, buses, etc... so now they have to add again resources into also providing USB-C connectors as most of us will only have USB-C cables coming from manufacturers, plus all the households will replace their cables to USB-C generating a lot of waste, I hope that they have really put into consideration all the effects that it will have.

For those haters who said Lightning connector is "Suck" there is one question I want to ask. Before USB - C type is made. In which both side of the connector can be used unlike micro USB which is only one side. Is there any other connector that can do that?

Here is the answer, LIGHTNING connector. So, you dumb haters can enjoy your USB C parade knowing iPhone will use USB C for it next iPhone. But, the ignorance and bigotry is stronger among you haters. In my case, I'm perfectly fine for iPhone to use USB C 😎

SShock, 26 Oct 2022Because good USB-C cables totally don't cost the same.... moreEven with all of its flaws, a world without Lightning might still seem strange to you. But Apple has a long history of ditching features before users are ready to say goodbye. And having different connectors throughout their products is very un-Apple-like. It goes against the it-just-works ecosystem they try to promote. Switching the iPhone to USB-C would unify their products. But that would also force Apple to say goodbye to the money it makes from licensing the Lightning standard to third parties, while also frustrating users who have purchased various Lightning dongles and accessories.

SShock, 26 Oct 2022Because good USB-C cables totally don't cost the same.... moreThe standard hasn't been significantly updated in the seven years it's been around. Most Lightning cables transfer data at USB 2.0 speeds, although there are some reports of USB 3.0 speeds with newer models. But we don't really know how fast Lighting is since it's proprietary, Apple, doesn't have to release all of the specifications. It just feels weird to buy a cable that can transfer data without actually knowing how fast or slow it will be. Regardless, Lightning is no longer a fast connector. If only Apple had a faster standard they could use.

I wished the interviewer asked them why the MacBook and iPad pros all switched to USBC if it caused so much e-waste. Lightening has been an inferior standard for years but the money apple makes from manufacturing them and licensing the MFI label was their only concern.
