Anonymous, 10 Feb 2023Nope pixel bloat 27 gb, oneui bloat 26 gbon pixel, The entire OS and its pre installed apps take up much less than 27GB, as the pixel 7 series (128gb models) only has a 15gb system partition (my 256GB model of the pixel 7 pro only uses 17GB). while the s23 series has 26GB system partitions (128gb models) and 70gb system partitions for 1TB model.

Not all need premium, Chinese make cheaper and wouldn't just sit back and watch, same applies to Google. Even if apples were also lower grade and started taking over, others would react. Hard to predict.

I have a few apps that are on old versions because the new versions removed some features i need or they make you buy them
The average user doesn't even know what an apk is let alone use older versions of an app but it does matter to people like me

There would have to be re... moreOnly reason I can think people would buy android phone in future is if apple doesn't make very cheap, entry level iphones. People on very low budget will be forced to get android. If apple makes very cheap iphones then none, not even the poorest would touch android.
Unfortunately, there's no commercially available alternative to what Android once was, and won't be in future due to how things are going. Most of the population are too ignorant and submissive to demand an alternative.

Ryse, 10 Feb 2023You still have the option to install custom ROMs, gain root... moreUnfortunately, more and more Android phones don't have option to unlock bootloader. Especially if you got mediatek processor, which many phones use nowadays. This means no root and no custom roms. The independent Android rooting/modding is also in decline due to this increased difficulty and also increased phone prices so developers are less interested.
Best thing we can do is to learn programming ourselves and then create mods which is much, much easier said than done! Those who studied programming and indeed lucky!

Perhaps is time that google stops adding numbers to the OS version, and start performing some real improvements on the system, prety much like Microsoft does with windows. Would make a whole lot of more sense then scaling versions for very small improvements.

Phone makers should just says "screw this" and start making Phones with Android 10 and no updates. And all App developers should just develop Apps for A10 and ignore all the new versions until Google starts getting a brain and remove scoped storage, together with all the useless fake security "features", and the tiles based quick settings. After 10 each new version of Android just kept getting lousier. Just fire the entire Team IC of security and focus on UX and user freedom. The security freaks does nothing but make things worse, they are useless and pointless.

Blocking legacy apps is already a bad sign
Sure it's only for apps meant for less than Android 6 but who's to say they won't increase it to 7 next year and to 8 after that

Do you even know that iOS doesn't support emulators? Also, do you know that you can install legacy apps by using a command shell? If you can type these comments, you can type commands.

So it's fine that APPLE takes the role to offer such a solution. I can imagine scenarios/use cases where i'd be glad to have and use it.
But in general, i prefer to ultimately have options to choose, even to shoot my own foot.
If G would improve sandboxing of sideloaded apps, that would make it a perfect balance. I believe, even APPLE is not too far away from it, just in case regulation should force them at some point.
