It's official: Nothing Phone (2) will use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 series chipset

28 February 2023
It's most likely the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but the company is being vague at the moment.

Sort by:

8+ Gen 1 for sure so they can be cheaper than flagships.. I can't see them competing at high end with Gen 2 just yet.

They had three bands, 2300, 1800 and 800mhz, out of these three bands only 800mhz support Volte so if you had phone with band 2300 and 1800 you could Get 4G but without Volte.

Also Volte isnt Ip only tech, thats why you dont get it over 3G or 2G or Fiber, Adsl etc. The one with Ip is called Voip.

Yeah, and it will cost 1000EUR. At this price point, you might as well grab an iPhone or Samsung. At least, they give very good software support.
Hardware differences are minimal at this point, the important difference, that could make a person choose a phone over another, is software support or UI preference. And personally, I will never choose a Nothing phone or whatever phone from China, over an iPhone or Samsung.

If the band needed to work in a country isn't supported you wont be able to connect to the towers and register with the service provider. VoLTE and VoWiFi are IP level services via IMS once the Mobile data or WiFi is active. It has absolutely nothing to with bands.

It's gone.. it's not going to come back in flagships even upper mid-ranges. We have to move on. Only way to have headphone jack in a flagship is Sony but that device is freaking expensive. Or have to opt to mid-range. I hate that flagship don't have headphone jack but all these people whining everywhere as if other brand gives headphone jack to flagship is absolutely annoying. Sony is the only 8 chipset that still provides headphone jack. The only. Are they aware of that?

Can't you get it. There is a large gap in processors b/w phone 1 and phone 2.
                Snapdragon 778G+
                Snapdragon 8+ gen 2

You won't see this thing in other phone brands.

Would be interested if the size was similar to vanilla S23 or iphone 14.

It'd be alright if Nothing can make a Phone (2 Lite) with Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 or 782G. I definitely welcome that

The reason first Edition didnt have them its because of Midrange soc and they were new hard to get licence of all things which is not included in soc, selling phones in Europe and Usa is hard, small mistake you are going to be sued.

The reason they went with flagship soc this time is exactly to solve Band issues, they want to enter US market, so expect compability with lot of countries too.

As long as it's below $800 it'll be a good buy. Don't want an ultra flagship. Just a powerful smartphone that can handle everything I do at reasonable size. I actually do think that 64MP camera is the best one resolution to detail wise. 50MP that spits 12MP isn't really ideal especially when there's oversharpening. Something like the camera system of the Nubia Z40s Pro. But that's just wishful thinking.

As long as I get something along the line of S23+ but stock like Android, I'm ok with it. I just wished it was better ergonomically. The flat sides are not fun to hold long term. Especially at ultra flagship size.

Even if it had basic waterproofing but triple cameras, it'll be fine. I want a powerful smartphone. Not necessarily the best.

                                      Snapdragon 8 Gen 1

Nothing Phone (1) doesn't even have VoLTE or VoWiFi support for key Asian countries. They are losing out on the sales because of this incompetence. Their reputation is also taking a hit because people buy without realizing only to return it because the call quality without VoLTE is atrocious on 2G bands then the buyer figures what's up. Several Asian countries have already decommissioned their 3G networks or repurposed them for other gen tech.

While everyone of Samsung's midrange competitor SKUs to the Nothing Phone (1) supports VoWiFi out of the box let alone the absolute bare minimum of VoLTE.

Now before anyone jumps to their defense citing 'it is upto the Telcos to provide support', nope you just dont what you are talking about. 3gpd files and other VoLTE settings have to be done by the phone maker as they do the custom OS updates as well. The Telcos cant touch that part of the system files on Android. You manually inputting HOS/XCAP APNs into your phone will do nothing if the IMS service isn't even running in your region's build. I have extensive experience with these things, manually enabling it on phones that have no support for it but you need a rooted phone to begin with.
