Like the previous commenter said, the people on this site love to whine and are especially obsessed with Apple and “who did it before”.

If it is done well, consumers don’t care who did it first.

DaFink, 01 Apr 2023And because someone failed on a previous attempt, that’s a ... moreWhile the way a feature is implemented does matter but sometimes it's just that the audience isn't ready to accept it. Take for example the moto mods from motorola. Brilliant concept and implementation. There were many accessories and all of them were super easy to put on and there stayed there until removed with a strong pull. They also enabled instant extra functions like a 10x optical zoom camera, speaker, instant photo printer, 5G (when it wasn't widely available in phones) battery pack, a gamepad, Alexa, back covers etc. It was fantastic. I still have a moto z2 with a battery mod. It adds hardly any bulk but charges the battery once again to full from zero. All without cables or hassle of finding a power source. The mod can just remain there and it won't fall off or look weird. Such was the beauty of moto mods. Unfortunately people weren't willing to accept such features or pay the price for it. But it was a great feature.

So perhaps back then when htc did it or ZTE did it with their Axon buttonless concept phone, people weren't interested. Today maybe they are, because the market has moved on and they look for new stuff on phones and so. Especially iPhone buyers that can shell out the money for premium features

I think everyone except Sony and maybe Asus will copy it! Which makes Sony and maybe Asus phones are the only purchasable phones in future.

solid-state buttons for unsolid-state prices that will rise once more due to extreme improvements like the solid-state buttons mentioned.

Anonymous, 01 Apr 2023Only reason it mattered is because HTC did it previously, a... moreAnd because someone failed on a previous attempt, that’s a reason for nobody to ever try again?

Let’s look at Motorola for an example shall we, they tried a finger print scanner years before Touch ID with the Moto Atrix 4G. The implementation sucked badly and so the industry largely ignored it, yet after Apple debuted Touch ID which worked great, suddenly fingerprint scanners were everywhere.

Point is this, if this turns out to indeed be true, then let’s not dwell on how bad it’s been done in the past and instead see how it’s implemented now…..

Either way, who does it first will never be anywhere near as relevant as who does it best.

              Is this April's fool

Oh boy 🤦‍♂️, I can see the usual ‘this was copied from….’ and ‘this was first on….’ comments. Let me ask you all something, why in the blue hell does it matter?!?!?!

When I bought my last car and the sales person was rattling off the features, you know what I or anyone else in the show room wasn’t wasting our time thinking ‘who had done all those features first?’ And same goes for every technology purchase I have ever made in my 4+ decades on this planet made, from my smartphones to laptops to TV’s right down to a dam kettle!

Only on this site do people seem to get so hung up on this pointless issue. Do features work well is what you should be considering, who did it first shouldn’t matter to anyone outside of a marketing department. Let it go already!

So they're basically ripping off HTC

Bigmeme, 31 Mar 2023I've been using smartphones since the s2 era and in no... moreI said that they're amongst the first to break. Not that they WILL break.

Did all your phones since the "s2 era" break but have their buttons in mint condition? You probably simply upgraded.

I'm skeptical about this, I mean will it work with Cases? Or moving forward the Case markers have to leave holes to cases in order to make it work which I hope it not.

But knowing Apple they think this through especially they also like to sell their own cases so I dont think they will push this if its affects their accessories sales.

So basically a new option to have these buttons have more wear and tear so you get to take it to shop and fix it in 3 digits.

You know what is amazing.....,In 2016, I purchased the new iPhone for $199 with 2 year agreement......normally sells for $649.....How in the world could the price of an iphone doubled.....? They are not any better than 2011.......Yet, prices nearly doubled.....and now the “fake” iPhones are selling for serious money...... I don’t know how a family of 4-5 could afford cell phones anymore.....Could you imagine dropping 7 grand on iPhones.....lol
